Sven Rayen is an artist working out of Antwerp, Belgium. Most of his work is all done on scraper-board, or scratch-board in which the artist uses a tool to remove the top layer of color to reveal the bottom layer. This effect allows the work to look like a drawing but have a tighter and cleaner feel to it, and when down as skilled as Sven clearly is, the end product is very dynamic. Lucas Simões is an artist and architect working out of São Paulo, Brasil. He does a variety of art, but the most intriguing is the collage work that he does. Essentially cutting and assembling portraits, he is able to create some truly unique works of art. I would love to see one of these collages being created. An illustrator working out of Los Angeles, Cam Floyd is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art. He says he is a big fan of 808 drum machines, and creates some amazing artwork. It looks as though he creates his works with a variety of mediums. The work is very colorful, abstract at times, and energetic. Head on over to his hompage and take a look at the rest of his work.
Megan Frauenhoffer has a Master’s in printmaking from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She has since been showing her work in galleries such as Hive Gallery in Los Angeles, 323 East in Michigan, and Art Basel in Miami. It’s not often I get to share artists that work in traditional printmaking methods, so I was very happy to be introduced to her work, she has an amazing style. An artist working out of Virginia, Andrew Davis attended the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Arts but left early to pursue a new direction. His previous works were mainly acrylic, but he has since moved over to using oils. It’s clear to see in his work that the new medium has allowed him to be more energetic and was a great choice. There are three series of works on his website; Portraits, Speaking Things, and the most recent Thinking Things. I love the colors and textures that he is able to achieve in these paintings. Trying to keep up with all that is happening in the art world by myself would take up way too much time, so I am happy when readers and artists submit work to the Creep. Not all of the art that is submitted ends up on the site, but Carty Sewill was one artist I had to share the moment I saw his work. The colors he uses are intense, and the way he uses them to render the flesh reminds me of how Basil Gogos does it with his work, although Carty’s style is far more electric. Bryan Drury is an artist working of New York, and is a graduate of the New York Academy of Art. He currently has a solo show, “Antibiosis”, on view at the Dean Project Gallery. The work in the show, as stated by Bryan, “are allegories whose subject matter comes out of the conflicting dynamic between human society and our mutable conception of nature.” Bryan is a phenomenal painter; looking at his CV you can see that he has quite a lot of education and it shows. This is type of work that you need to see in person or else you miss out on all the detail, and magic that oil painting done in the right hands holds.

Maria Checchia is an artist from Italy, who is also one part of a duo named Caktus&Maria. Together they make beautiful, photorealistic murals with spray-paint; and alone she makes some pretty amazing paintings in a variety of mediums such as oils, watercolors, ink, and graphite. It looks as though a majority of the mural work the duo create, are self portraits, while Maria’s solo work seems to be inspired possibly from magazines and images found on the net.
