Opening this Saturday, July 3rd at Rivet Art is a group show featuring work by Brent Nolasco, Jeremy Nichols, & Revise CMW. All three artists have a very abstract, and energetic feel to their work and compliment each other very well. Revise CMW also has a limited edition screen print, a collaboration with Joey Potts (last below). The show will be up until July 31st for those that wish to see it in person, otherwise head on over to the site now for a full preview.
First seen in 2004, the Grand Central Art Center is reviving the hit exhibition “100 Artists See Satan”, now available in paperback. This years show features 100 of the most talented contemporary artists giving their interpretation of the devil, and as opposed to the first version of the show, this one will be a fundraiser with “All proceeds will benefit future GCAC programs and exhibitions”. The exhibition will run from June 26th to August 15th, so if you are around the Santa Ana area make sure to stop by. Just a few of the artists that will be participating in this show are: Peter Adamyan, Ron English, Robert Williams, Tara McPherson, Jeff McMillan, Ana Bagayan, Scott G Brooks, Luke Chueh, Dalek, Coop, Korin Faught, Mercedes Helnwein, Camille Rose Garcia, Alex Grey, Chris Mars, Scott Musgrove, Mark Ryden, Mike Shine, Christopher Ulrich, Eric White, Laurie Lipton and many more.
A majority of the work is pretty amazing. I’m not the biggest fan of Gary Baseman’s work but I really like the drawing he submitted. Eric White’s painting “Nope”, freaks me right out. There is also a good amount of prints we have seen before, but its nice that these artists submitted work to a good cause. Coming this June 25th is the Beijing Gathering, Presented by 3A and Milk. This show will featured over 50 works by Ashley Wood, along with art from Phil Hale, Jeremy Geddes, Rufus Dayglo, Dorophy Tang, and Kenny Wong. A blog has also been started, so those that want to follow the event can head on over to the Beijing Gathering Blogspot and check it out. The lineup of this show is amazing, I really hope the work from this exhibition make its way online. In the meantime, here are some preview images from Ashley Wood of work that will be on show.
Opening tonight at the Alternative Cafe in Seaside, CA is the latest Creep Machine curated exhibition. “Fables and Follies” is a group show that will feature work by Wesley Burt, John Cebollero, Dan Harding, Dave MacDowell, Jason Levesque, Jessica Ward, Apricot Mantle, Ken Keirns, Joseph Larkin, Arabella Proffer, Celene Petrulak, and more.
The reception starts at 7 pm, and for those that can’t make the show, the works are not on the galleries website.
Opening this Friday, June 11th at the London Miles Gallery is a group show curated by Andrew Hosner (Thinkspace) entitled “The Next Generation: A New Chapter in Contemporary Art.” The show will feature work by many of the rising stars in what is being called the New Contemporary Movement. All of the works from the show are 12″ x 12″, and just a few names found in this show are: Aaron Nagel, Allison Sommers, Amy Sol, Andy Kehoe, Audrey Kawasaki, Caia Koopman, Chris Murray, Dave MacDowell, Kelly Vivanco, Linnea Strid, Mari Inukai, Sarah Joncas, Stella Im Hultberg, Nathan DeYoung and many more. The full show should be online this coming weekend, and for those fans that can see the show in person it will run until July 4th.
Opening up this Friday, May 21st at the Rotofugi Gallery is a solo show by Ryan Heshka. “Strange Powers (a BLAB! show)” will be the first time that Heshka exhibits at the gallery. The show is curated by Monte Beauchamp of BLAB!. I am excited to see some new work from Ryan, as I have always been a fan of his style. Opening this Friday, April 30th at the Rotofugi Gallery in Chicago is a dual show featuring new works from Ken Keirns and Jimmy Pickering. “Dream Burn Down” by Ken Keirns will have 14 new paintings on show, and “Beautiful Miasma” from Jimmy Pickering will have 40 new works, many of which are these great little 4″ x 6″ drawings called “Little Miasma”. If your in the area make sure to stop by, its going to be an amazing show. It runs until May 16th.
Opening up this Saturday, April 24th at the Joshua Liner Gallery is the latest solo show from Shawn Barber. Entitled “Tattooed Portraits: Chronicle”, this will be Shawn’s first solo exhibition in New York. The show features 30 new paintings, 8 of which are Watercolor paintings of figure studies and tattoo machines. I was hoping to see some of his watercolor works at his last solo show at the Shooting Gallery (reviewed), so I am happy to see that he has a good amount for this show. Looking at all of the works at once, with the help of the Liner Galleries new website features, you can see that this is a very strong and cohesive show. Not only do we get watercolor pieces, but also paintings of tattoo equipment, studio spaces, arm portraits, and even a series of hand self portraits.
There is some really outstanding works this time, such as the Portrait of Marisa Kakoulas (shown first), the twin painting of James and Tim Kern, and two paintings of Bob Tyrell. A monochromatic, multiple head study, and a color portrait of Bob screaming. There is also the head study of Jo Harrison, that I mentioned during the Shooting Gallery review; I was wondering when this painting would pop up.
