  • “Linearity” group show @ Mint Gallery

One June 9th, the Mint Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia, opened Linearity, a group show featuring 25 artists working in a variety of mediums all on paper. The show was curated by artist Kelly McKernan, and is now on available to view on the web. There is some great work in this show, a few pieces were very surprising such as Nobody Lives Forever by Megan Frauenhoffer (shown first). This mixed-drawing has the same figurative style Megan is known for, but its a new style overall and looks amazing. Take a look at the preview images below, from Megan Frauenhoffer, Kelly McKernan, Kaspian Shore, and Gene Guynn, and then head over to the rest of the works.

  • “Girls with Stars in Their Hair” Print set by Gene Guynn

Almost a year ago in June, Gene Guynn created a series of graphite and watercolor works entitled “Girls with Stars In Their Hair” (featured). There were 10 paintings in this series, but he slimmed it down to 4 for this set, which must have been a hard choice. The prints are 5″ x 7″ with a 4″ x 6″ image area on Somerset Velvet, 100% cotton rag paper. Signed and numbered in an edition of 200, and a signed certificate of authenticity. The best art is, this set is under $20.

  • “Phosphors” by Gene Guynn

    “Phosphors” by Gene Guynn

It’s been far too long since I have posted anything from Gene Guynn, but he recently released a new painting so I had to share it. “Phosphors” is a new oil painting 24″ x 36″, that Gene will have on view at the Hibbleton Gallery this March 4th. The group show is entitled “F* IT!” and will also feature work by Jessica Ward, Celene, Apricot Mantle, and many more. I love the colors that Gene used in this new painting, and it looks as though he has changed up his “scar” elements a bit. Now the scars commonly found on the shoulders of his figures are spewing off a mix of colored smoke that really gives this piece a dynamic look.

  • Preview: Crazy 4 Cult 4

The group show Crazy 4 Cult is now back again for the fourth installment. The full title “Crazy 4 Cult 4: The Case of the Redundant Number”, will feature work inspired by cult movies from a wide range of amazing artists. Just a few of those participating are: Allison Sommers, Anne-Julie Aubrey, Apricot Mantle, Casey Weldon, Chet Zar, Chris Murray, Dan May, Dave MacDowell, Ewelina Ferruso, Gene Guynn, Joe Scarano, Ken Garduno, Ken Keirns, N.C. Winter, Rich Pellegrino, Scott Campbell, Stella Im Hultberg, Tom Haubrick, and many more. Some are veterans of the group show, and many are new. The past three shows seemed to have been dominated by just a handful of movies, Donnie Darko, The Big Lebowski, Edward Scissorhands, and Willy Wonka. There are so many amazing cult movies, I do hope some of them are given the same treatment some of the repeat titles have. Here is a short preview of some of the works that have been posted around the web, or graciously shared with the Creep Machine. Hit the jump-link to see the full preview.

  • “Girl with Stars in her Hair” series by Gene Guynn

Gene Guynn has been releasing some images from a new series of paintings he has been working on. This series is entitled “Girl with Stars in her Hair”, and each one is 4″ x 6″, graphite with watercolor. The pieces are all for an upcoming show in Hong Kong that focuses on 4″ x 6″ works of art. I really love the look of these mixed media paintings, and hope that after this show Gene continues in this direction for a bit.
