Every year around the beginning of December, social media and blogs light up with previews of art that will be on exhibition at either Art Basel, or at the Scope Art Show in Miami, Florida. Along with the images of art, there are always a few articles here and there about why the art world is loathsome and even why this is the worst time to be an artist ever. While these articles touch on a few ideas that I do agree with, I still think great art is being made and even shown at these festivals. Street art is one good example; take a look at Streeartnews.net for some of the best murals created during the event.

Preview: “A Taste of Things to Come” @ Spoke Art
Spoke Art just finished up some remodeling in the gallery and is all setup to open a new group show entitled “A Taste of Things to Come”; a preview of what’s in store for the gallery over the next year. Work by Handiedan, Serge Gay Jr., Sam Wolfe Connelly (featured), Nimit Malavia, Rod Luff, Jonas Lofgren, Casey Weldon, Timothy Doyle, and Ron Ulicny. The show opening this Thursday, August 4th from 6-10pm and will be on view until August 25th.

“OH, YOU ARE SICK”, David Lynch Group show @ Phone Booth Gallery
Another show that opened up this past weekend is “OH, YOU ARE SICK”, a group exhibition with the artists drawing inspiration from David Lynch movies. The show features art by Ryan Milner, Mr Frivolous, Handiedan, Adam Isaac Jackson, Lora Zombie, Garry Booth, Craww, Rich Kelly, David Owen, and more. The show has a very nice balance of art created in different mediums. The gallery will also be releasing 6 prints with the David Lynch theme, two of which have been released. Ryan Milner’s “Blue Velvet” print and Joe King’s “Eraserhead” (shown last).

“Valkyries No. 1” print by Handiedan
The Phone Booth Gallery just opened a new solo exhibition from Handiedan on November 6th, and along with this new show is a new limited edition screen-print. “Valkyries No. 1″ is a 36″ x 24” 6 color screen-print on 100lb cougar cover paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 100. New time limited prints by Handiedan
Phone Booth Gallery has some time limited prints by Handiedan. There are two prints available, “Beautiful Decay” and “Two Blondes”. Each print is on 192 gsm Fine Art Paper, signed and numbered, and limited to whatever sells during this Saturday. You also have the option of having the prints framed. Handiedan prints tend to sell out very fast, so now is the best time to score a print.

“Translucent Skin No. 1” print by Handiedan
Phone Booth Gallery has just released a new print by the artist known as Handiedan. The print, “Translucent Skin No. 1″, is 24″ x 18”, 12 color screenprint in Cougar Smooth Cover paper, signed and numbered in edition of 100. Each print is also hand embellished by the artist.
