On Saturday, November 12, the Copro Gallery opened a group show sure to make any art fan gaze endlessly at the screen, or in person if your lucky enough. Dark Water is a group show curated by Martin Wittfooth and features the work of: Aron Wiesenfeld, Billy Norrby, Andrew Hem, Adam Miller, Charlie Immer, Alyssa Monks, Steven Assael, Christian Van Minnen, Jenny Morgan, Caitlin Hackett, Brad Kunkle, Dave Cooper, Elizabeth Winnel, Jean-Pierre Roy, Keniche Hoshine, Jean Labourdette (Turf One), Matt Rota, Jason Yarmosky, Nicola Verlato, Phil Hale, John Brophy, Eric White, Josh Keyes, Jeremy Lipking, and even Martin Wittfooth. The thing that makes this show so amazing, besides the outstanding work from each artist, is the idea that this show is really a collection of some of the mot talented, exciting artists creating art today. This show has the ability to give fans of Josh Keyes, Martin Wittfooth, or Jeremy Lipking, an introduction to some other artists that might not have been on their radar. It’s also one of those exhibitions that every work is breathtaking and has the ability to steal the show. Below are more than a few examples of favorites from the show, the rest are over at the galleries homepage.

“Enchanting Depths” by Jeremy Lipking
Aracadia Fine Arts currently has a group show running entitled “New Faces of Realism: 10th Anniversary Group Exhibition“. Even though there are many good works in this show, I wanted to focus on one by Jeremy Lipking. “Enchanting Depths” is oil on panel (?) 40″ x 70″ and was also entered in the 2011 California Art Club Gold Medal Exhibition. The painting is so intense, I can only image how amazing it is in person. While viewing works such as this online will never compete with the real experience, Jeremy did create a page that allows you to zoom in very close and see all of the brush work that comprises this painting. Check that out here: Enchanting Close Up. If you didn’t already feel that Jeremy was a modern day master, I’m sure this painting will change your mind.

aotd: “Reclining in White” by Jeremy Lipking
Well, I started my classes this past week and am taking my first oil painting class. I have painted in watercolors and acrylics before, but never oils. I now have a major appreciation for those that can use them, not like I wasn’t completely mesmerized before.
So, while waiting for paint to day I went out looking for oil paintings that made me truly appreciate how far I have to go. There is of course Michael Hussar, Kevin Llewellyn, Sean Cheetham and today’s featured art by Jeremy Lipking. The piece shown here is beautiful in every way, I really wish I was able to see this in person, as these little internet pics remove so much of the experience of looking at art. The nightgown and its transparency is amazing. Jeremy has a DVD out that shows how he paints, and there is also this little step by step if you want to take a look. Lipking Step by Step
Head on over to his homepage to see more work, and order a dvd or book if you wish, I’m saving for the dvd as well.
