JR Goldberg created an illustration based on Yolandi Visser from Die Antwoord that I had to share. It’s not often that the artist creates works based on real people, but as she stated on her blog Yolandi is already a living cartoon character. From what I have been reading, this image has also made its way onto the Die Antwoord official Facebook page (here), Congrats JR Goldberg!
J.R. Goldberg has been busy making some new original paintings for a show opening this weekend in Ottawa, Ontario. The show is called “Seduction of the Idiots†and as stated on the site is “what can happen when comic and cartoon addiction is not dealt with early enough”. J.R. made four original paintings for the show, each one is acrylic on 6″x6″ wood panels. The collection is entitled “The Bloodies” and includes “Mashy†the Mallet, “Jabby†the Bottle, “Choppy†the Cleaver, and “Poppy†the Gun.” It looks as though these might also make it into screen-print form if there is enough demand. So head over to JR’s site and tell her you want a set of these as prints.
Just before the San Diego Comic Con started I posted about a new print released by J.R. Goldberg (here), who has just teamed up with LTD Tee to release another print/shirt box set. The image for the box set is the same “Mutiny of the Flesh” image that was made into a screen-print, although here you get it as a snazzy t-shirt and an 8″ x 10″ art print. J.R. Goldberg has been getting ready for the 2010 San Diego Comic Con, and will be signing at the Slave Labor Graphics booth all weekend. She braved the recent heatwave in Los Angeles, and cranked out a limited edition run of screen-prints. “Mutiny of the Flesh” is a 13.75″ x 19.5″ two color (opaque black and turquoise) print on 75lb cover weight vellum. Each print is signed, numbered, and titled in silver ink in an edition of 95. The print also comes with two handmade buttons, featuring images of the rabbits face and fists. If you are not going to SDCC this year but would still like this print, she has them up in her etsy shop right now.

RobberFly Press, a new screenprinting shop created by the amazing J.R. Goldberg, has just teamed up with Jhonen Vasquez (Invader Zim, Johnny The Homicidal Maniac) to release this new limited edition screen print. Entitled “J’S NOT J”, this is a 4 color hand printed 8 1/8″ × 14 1/2″ screen print, signed and numbered by Jhonen in an edition of 130 for $50 each. The colors are amazing, and these new prints look top notch. Can’t wait to see more from RobberFly Press. I have heard these prints are selling fast, so don’t wait.

The 2009 Comic Con is San Diego is now underway. There is so much to post its ridiculous, so I’ll just point out some of the highlights.
James jean’s new book, Kindling will be released at the Chronicle Books booth #1506. He will be signing there this Saturday from 2-3pm. The book is $29.95. It can be had here as well (Pre-order). His PR3 book will also be coming out, with advanced signings at Last Gasp, Booth 1616

Johnen Vasquez (JTHM, Invader Zim) filmed a little video of J.R. Golberg painting some of the hand made buttons that she sells in her Etsy shop. The buttons are only 1″ across, they are hand-sketched, inked and painted. I like that she puts time into something that is usually mass produced. Along with this new video, she also posted a new blog on her site going over the materials she uses, such as what she used in the video.
I really love her art, I’m talking tattooing it on the face, neck and head kind of love. :p

JR Goldberg has added a new print to her online shop, this one is a gocco print. The print is 8.5″ x 10″, signed and numbered in an edition of 50. It’s a pretty amazing print, gocco prints are often very simple but this one is a four color print. Black for the background, that can only be seen from certain angles, and white, silver and gray oil-based inks for the rest.
The image is based on a popular sketch she did, so this print is not only amazing in design but the image itself is killer.
I also bought one of her “Squelch” minibooks. The book is super tiny, but the printing and quality of it is perfect. Well worth the $5 it costs.
