    Temple of Art at La Luz de Jesus Gallery

    Since 2012, Allan Amato has been taking photographs of artists, and asking to reinterpret the portraits in their medium of choice. This collaboration is not only unique because it deals with the way in which the photographer sees his subjects, but how the artists themselves interpret and deal with the portrait of themselves. The artists did not compose the photograph, they are just working from it. It’s a great project and one of those exhibitions that must be seen in person. This exhibition marks the final footage to complete a documentary on the project, and Baby Tattoo will release a book mid-exhibition. As quoted in the press release “Rarely are we given an opportunity to confront our perceptions of reality and self; this exhibition will illuminate the universal tension between the pursuit of our vision and the demands of a critical and implacable world.”

    New work by Kent Williams

    Opening Saturday, March 31st at the Corey Helford Gallery is a group show curated by Natalia Fabia entitled Hookers. This group show follows the “Second Quasi-Annual Hooker Beauty Pageant” that will take place on March 30th. The exhibition portion of this weekend will feature art by a variety of artists such Phil Hale, Michael Hussar, Jeremy Lipking, Chris Pugliese, Korin Faught, Saber, Tara McPherson, Sean Cheetham, Joshua Petker, and Kent Williams as seen below. This new painting by Williams is entitled Convergence: Ayako, and is oil on linen 60″ x 70″. As always the colors, texture, and motion seen in his work is inspiring. If your in the area make sure to stop by, not only to see this painting, but the entire show.

  • Corey Helford – “Zero to Sixty” 5 Year Anniversary Group Show

    Currently on view at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City, CA is the 5th Year Anniversary Group Show featuring many of the artists that the gallery frequently showcases. Work by Korin Faught, Sas Christian, Shag, Stella Im Hultberg, Jason Shawn Alexander, Natalia Fabia, Colin Christian, Sylvia Ji, Tom Bagshaw, Gary Baseman, Amy Sol, Kent Williams, Greg Simkins, Mia, Hush, Billy Norrby, Joey Remmers, Gary Taxali, Van Arno, Brandi Milne, Scott G Brooks, David Stoupakis, Ron English, Todd Schorr, Chris Anthony, Ray Ceasar, and many more. The show is only on view for 13 days before being taken down as a new show by COOP will be opening on the 15th of July.

  • Kent Williams & Chris Anthony @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

    On May 21st the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles opened two very exciting solo shows, one by photographer Chris Anthony and the other by Kent Williams. This latest show by Chris Anthony is entitled “A Captured Species” and features 11 new C-prints (Chromogenic Color Prints). The dreamy, sublime feel that Anthony’s photographs are known for continue in this new series. Kent Williams brings 15 new paintings and drawings in a show entitled “Convergence”. I have always been a fan of the brushy, impasto style in his paintings as well as his energetic drawings.   • Eklektikos by Kent Williams @ Evoke Contemporary

    Opening this Thursday, September 2nd is the latest solo show by Kent Williams. Entitled “Eklektikos”, this new exhibition will open at Evoke Contemporary in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The reception is from 6-8pm, so if your around the area make sure to get there early to really check out the paintings. The show features a great blend of large scale works, and some studies with mixed media on paper. The style Williams has in drawing he figure shines through in not only his studies, but the final oil paintings as well. I love the energetic, and slightly messy way that the paint is applied.   • “The Silk Book” by Kent Williams

    “The Silk Book” by Kent Williams

    Kent Williams will be at the Allen Spiegel Fine Arts booth #4701, and will have some new prints for sale and is also premiering an extremely limited artist edition book entitled “The Silk Book”. This 17″ x 17″ handcrafted book features 20 giclee plates and one original drawing which was created especially for each volume. The drawing and the plates are all hand bound in a Japanese silk covered book, that has been bound using the Japanese Stab binding method, and using mulberry endpapers. Each book is proofed by the artist, and is signed, numbered, and stamped with the artist’s personal hanko signature seal and embossed stamp. The book is limited to an edition of 10 for $2500 each.   • “Art From the New World” @ Bristol City Musuem

    Curated by Jan Corey Helford, this past May 15th marked the opening of the “Art From the New World” group exhibition at the Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery. This show will run until August 22nd, but for those of us that aren’t able to see it in person, we now have some images of the art and even behind the scenes photos of the preparation and build up to opening day (see here).

    Last year the Bristol City Museum featured the works of Banksy, and during the course of the exhibition over 300,000 visited the museum. Now for the “Art From the New World” show, there have been over 5,000 visitors in the first 6 days of the opening. This is not only a very exciting show, but an important one for the future of the art we love so much. Originally referred to as a scene filled with “illustrators”, this art is now gaining more momentum than ever. Museums are taking notice, and the fan-base is becoming larger than ever. There is some amazing work in this show, from artists such as Kent Williams, David Stoupakis, Joe Sorren, Brandi Milne, Buff Monster, Camille Rose Garcia, Dave Kinsey, Travis Louie, Mercedes Helnwein, Ray Ceasar, Sas Christian, Melissa Forman, Jason Shawn Alexander, Dave Cooper, Liz McGrath, Mike Stilkey, Gary Baseman, Craola, Luke Chueh, Coop, Natalia Fabia, Chris Anthony, AJ Fosik, Joe Ledbetter, Todd Schorr, Van Arno, Martin Wittfooth, Josh Agle, Lola, Sylvia Ji, Marion Peck, Mark Ryden and many more.
