    Scope Miami Beach 2014

Every year around the beginning of December, social media and blogs light up with previews of art that will be on exhibition at either Art Basel, or at the Scope Art Show in Miami, Florida. Along with the images of art, there are always a few articles here and there about why the art world is loathsome and even why this is the worst time to be an artist ever. While these articles touch on a few ideas that I do agree with, I still think great art is being made and even shown at these festivals. Street art is one good example; take a look at Streeartnews.net for some of the best murals created during the event.

Jason Edmiston’s “Monsters of Rock” @ Phone Booth Gallery

Just a few days ago on April 14th, the Phone Booth Gallery in Long Beach, CA opened a three person show entitled Rock Paper Sinners featuring the work of Jason Edmiston, Ryan Milner, and Joe King. For this show Jason Edmiston added three new Monsters of Rock to the lineup he started at the Crazy Monsters Show (featured) this past May. The new paintings feature rock monsters of Billy Idol, Angus Young, and Dee Snider. Jason also has drawings of all six monsters on view as well. I may have heard that new prints based on the new monsters will be coming soon. Take a look at all of the Monsters of Rock here, and then over to the gallery for the full show.

The show features art by Ryan Milner, Mr Frivolous, Handiedan, Adam Isaac Jackson, Lora Zombie, Garry Booth, Craww, Rich Kelly, David Owen, and more. The show has a very nice balance of art created in different mediums. The gallery will also be releasing 6 prints with the David Lynch theme, two of which have been released. Ryan Milner’s “Blue Velvet” print and Joe King’s “Eraserhead” (shown last).

  • Lora Zombie “Broken Doll La La La” @ Phone Booth Gallery

Lora Zombie’s latest solo show opened at the Phone Booth Gallery this past February 12th, it closes on March 5th so there is still some time to see it. I’ve always liked watercolor, acrylic, and even oil based works that tend to be applied in a hectic and messy manner, but there work here is hit and miss with me. I do have to say that I always enjoy the monkeys that Lora paints. Maybe it’s that I am a big fan of monkeys, or just that these works tend to look more exciting. There is a good amount of work in display, after the preview (of just monkeys) take a look at the full show.
