The sixth annual Crazy 4 Cult group show opened this past week; the big change is that this time around it is in New York. There is a new lineup of artists with a good mix of new and returning favorites. Looking around the net there are stories of the long lines, people camping out to see the show, and an overall amazing night of art and cult movie entertainment. Just a handful of the artists that graced the show this year are Aaron Jasinksi, Allison Sommers, Casey Weldon, Cate Rangel, Chris B Murray, Dabs Myla, Fred Harper, Jason Edmiston, Lora Zombie, Sam Wolfe Connelly, and Travis Louie.

Reviews: “Semiprecious” by Sam Wolfe Connelly @ Spoke Art
On October 8th, Spoke Art in San Francisco opened the first solo show of New York artist Sam Wolfe Connelly. Having recently graduated with a degree in illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design, it’s amazing that Sam already has a solo show, and a very strong one at that. He has previously shown work with Gallery Nucleus and Bold Hype, but this was his opportunity to show a series of works that will not only show his considerable talent, but the consistency, and cohesiveness. I stopped by the reception night, took a look at the works, snapped some photos, and was able to talk to Sam for a bit about his working process.

Going in order of time left, Sam Wolfe Connelly has “Romance”, a 13″ x 13.5″ print limited to max edition of 50. The image was made in order to accompany a short story about romance by author (Fight Club) Chuck Palahniuk. Next is a print/book combo from Gary Taxali entitled “I Love You, Ok!”. this 144 hardcover book also comes with a 4″ x 6″ gocco print entitled “Chump”. This set has a max edition of 50. Finally, a unique print by Jason Limon. “Luna” is 11″ x 22″, a a rare size to see but is integral for this image. The print is limited to a max edition of 55. As always all of the prints come with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Preview: “A Taste of Things to Come” @ Spoke Art
Spoke Art just finished up some remodeling in the gallery and is all setup to open a new group show entitled “A Taste of Things to Come”; a preview of what’s in store for the gallery over the next year. Work by Handiedan, Serge Gay Jr., Sam Wolfe Connelly (featured), Nimit Malavia, Rod Luff, Jonas Lofgren, Casey Weldon, Timothy Doyle, and Ron Ulicny. The show opening this Thursday, August 4th from 6-10pm and will be on view until August 25th.

“Quentin Vs Coen” group show @ Bold Hype Gallery
Coming this April 7th, Bold Hype Gallery and Spoke Art will open a group show that is sure to please art and cult movie fans alike. “Quentin VS Coen” will feature work from over 100 artists, all of which will tackle a movie created by Quentin Tarantino or The Coen Brothers. Just a few names that fans will see participating in this show are: Brian Viveros, Casey Weldon, Charlie Immer, David Choquette, Edith Lebeau, Gene Guynn, Jesse Riggle, Johannah O’ Donnell, Munk One, Nimit Malavia, Rich Pellegrino, Roland Tamayo, Sam Wolfe Connelly, Scott Scheidly, Shannon Bonatakis, Steven Daily, Tatiana Suarez, Tiffany Liu, Tom Haubrick, Tristan Eaton, Dave Perillo, Joshua Budich, Mike Mitchell, Todd Slater, and many more. Thisis the first installment of Spoke Art’s “Versus” series, and since this show is bound to be a success, get ready for more shows of this caliber. What about George Romero VS John Carpenter? Sam Wolfe Connelly is an artist out of Savannah, and went to the Savannah College of Art and Design. It looks like Sam works in all sorts of media, digital, watercolors, graphite, acrylics and more.
