“Miseryland” Triptych by Dave MacDowell

April 1st at the Compound Gallery in Portland, the group show “Triptych” opened up. Artists such as Jen Lobo, Martin Ontiveros, J Shea, Keegan Onefoot, and Dave MacDowell all made three piece works in a variety of mediums. Dave MacDowell’s “Miseryland” Triptych is completely nuts. There is so much going on in this painting, and the colors are as intense as we have come to expect from his work, and the way he painted in the panel borders was an amazing idea. By painting the three panels on a single canvas, Dave was able to add that background as well as the crazy Mickey looming above, acting as your host to this insane world. Seeing Dave’s work in person before, I know that while this image does show how bright and intense the work is, being in front of the real thing is a must. If your in the area, make sure to stop by and take a look.
