Jonathan Bergeron, aka Johnny Crap, has added some new paintings and drawings to his online shop. This is the second time this month is has released some new work to the shop, at some very nice prices. A good majority of the work in the shop is on sale, so you can grab an oil paintings, one his outstanding ink drawings, or one of the last resin statues he made along with Bigshot Toyworks and Chris Ryniak.
Its been almost a year since the release on Ink Alchemy Vol 2 (featured), and now Justin Kamerer (Angryblue) and Jeral Tidwell (Humantree.com) have just released Ink Alchemy Volume 3. This new release features over 40 pages of illustrations from both artists, all on aged parchment paper, with a 2 color screen-printed cover. The books are signed and numbered in an edition of 800. The forst 100 orders will also get mini art prints from both artists.
Just this past weekend, June 26th, Jeff Soto’s latest solo show “Lifecycle” and Dave Cooper’s show “Mangle” opened up at the Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York. Jeff’s work is now a little bit more detailed and intense this round. His last solo show was “The Inland Empire” at Stolenspace, and while that was a great show the work in “Lifecycle” seems a little bit more jarring, and more richly conveys the fear and environmental issues his work often holds. Much of the icons were are used to seeing in Soto’s paintings are here, but some new ones have entered and others have been re-imagined.
Next door in Gallery II is Dave Cooper’s “Mangle”, featuring “new drawings and paintings of twisted ladies”. The color palette is a darker than his latest works have been, and the feel of Dave’s work is a nice compliment to Soto’s. I would like to see the two shows in person, but I can imagine that the feel the patrons had was pretty intense.
First seen in 2004, the Grand Central Art Center is reviving the hit exhibition “100 Artists See Satan”, now available in paperback. This years show features 100 of the most talented contemporary artists giving their interpretation of the devil, and as opposed to the first version of the show, this one will be a fundraiser with “All proceeds will benefit future GCAC programs and exhibitions”. The exhibition will run from June 26th to August 15th, so if you are around the Santa Ana area make sure to stop by. Just a few of the artists that will be participating in this show are: Peter Adamyan, Ron English, Robert Williams, Tara McPherson, Jeff McMillan, Ana Bagayan, Scott G Brooks, Luke Chueh, Dalek, Coop, Korin Faught, Mercedes Helnwein, Camille Rose Garcia, Alex Grey, Chris Mars, Scott Musgrove, Mark Ryden, Mike Shine, Christopher Ulrich, Eric White, Laurie Lipton and many more.
A majority of the work is pretty amazing. I’m not the biggest fan of Gary Baseman’s work but I really like the drawing he submitted. Eric White’s painting “Nope”, freaks me right out. There is also a good amount of prints we have seen before, but its nice that these artists submitted work to a good cause. Check out the preview images here, and then head on over and see the full show. 100 Artists See Satan Fundraiser @ Grand Central Art Center

It’s been quite a while since the site had a contest, so thanks to Virtu Art Gallery and their kind donation, the Creep Machine has a limited edition “Yuuwaku” print from Audrey Kawasaki to give to one lucky reader. This print was from the last batch of “timed” print releases that Audrey had back in January. The print is 16″ x 20.5″ on 100% cotton archival fine art paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 1350. This is also the image that will be seen on the latest Hi Fructose Collected Edition Book.
So what do you have to do to win? Simple, just comment below with a number between 1 and 1350. In two weeks on July 10th the person with the closest number wins (in the case of multiple, same number entries, Random.org will decide) . How easy is that for such a beautiful print? Make sure to enter your e-mail address when you leave a comment. One entry per person, multiple entries will be deleted, and good luck!
NOTE: Please refrain from entering web site addresses, some entries are being caught by the spam filter because of it.
R.S. Connett has just added a new painting to his site entitled “War Machine II”, (or “Machine Gun Face”). This new character will be used for Connett’s new series, “Transmutationists”, but might change a little bit. The idea of this painting is man becoming machine, and even though that is not an entirely new idea, I like the take that Connett has in this piece. I love the contrast of that biomechanical figure in the foreground, and those amazing apocalyptic skies he paints so well. This painting is also available, if you head over to the link you can check it out.
This past June 19th at the Bear & Bird Gallery, a group show curated by artist A. Pants entitled “It’s Not a Doll, It’s an Action Figure” opened up. The show features art and photography inspired by action figures. Just a few of the artists that can be see in this show are Dave MacDowell, A.Pants, Lora Zombie, Charles Howell, Allan Innman, Oscar E. Alonso, and more. Love that painting from Dave MacDowell, I wish that was a real collectible figure.
Mondotees has finally released info about a new series of prints they will be releasing. In conjunction with LucasFilm Ltd, The Alamo Drafthouse will be randomly releasing prints that are dedicated to the original Star Wars movies. The first one is Jeff Soto’s “Scrap Yard Power Droid”, and is a 24″ x 36″ screen-print by the folks at D&L Screen Printing, each one is hand signed and numbered in an edition of 50 for $50 each. Limit 1 per customer. This is an amazing looking print, and I don’t imagine it will last long. There is also some process shots over at the Mondoblog.
