Last weekend, March 6th, I made my way over the 7th Anniversary show over at the Shooting Gallery in SF. It has always been one of my favorite galleries to visit, as there is perfect lighting for photography and consistently good exhibitions. Opening that night was the latest solo show of Aaron Nagel entitled “Marks”. Right next door at the White Walls Gallery was also works from Kevin Cyr, Jessica Hess and upstairs at Gallery Three was new works by Jessica Whiteside.

“As the Mind Wanders” print by Jeremy Fish
Jeremy Fish is currently embarking on a traveling art and print show entitled “Road Less Traveled”, and to kick it off he has a very impressive new screenprint available. The print made by Decoder Ring, is a 21 layer screen print on heavy archival paper. Decoder Ring is known for making very intense screen prints such as the “All Gone” print from Tara McPherson (here). Jeremy’s print, “As the Mind Wanders” is signed, numbered and embosses with Jeremy’s chop and the Decoder Ring chop. The print is limited to 100, with 80 being sold on the site. This is quite an amazing print, I don’t imagine it will last long. After the ‘read-more’ link I have an animated version of the layers being put on, images that were originally on Expresso Beans Forum.

“Sonisphere” print by Godmachine
Godmachine has just added a new print to his online shop. “Sonisphere” is a 3 color print on Mr. French black stock paper, 18″ x 24″ signed and numbered in an edition of 50. This print is made for the Sonisphere festival that will feature music from some of the best isuch as: Alice in Chains, Iron Maiden, Mastodon, Rollins, Slayer and many more.

Mr Frivolous @ Phone Booth Gallery
This past Saturday, March 6th the Phone Booth Gallery opened “Daydreamer” with new works from the artist known as Mr. Frivolous. All of the works are mixed media on paper, and all appear to be 8.3″ x 11.7″. There is some good work in this show, I especially like “One Size Fits All” (seen below).

“A Swan Among Ducks” print by Aaron Nagel
Later today I will be posting images from Aaron Nagel’s “Marks” show that I checked out on Saturday. For the time being those interested in prints of Aaron’s work can head over to his site. He has four prints available in the shop, “A Swan Among Ducks” was one of the paintings in this recent show. The print is 26″ x 21″ on archival paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 20.

“Lamb of God” print by Michael Hussar
Birdbath Publishing has just released a new print by Michael Hussar, one that many have been waiting on for quite some time. I first saw the original “Lamb of God” at the SF Fetish Ball Art Show and was amazed at the colors, and textures seen in the work. The print is now available for those like me that have been waiting for one. 12″ x 24″, signed and numbered, and titled in an edition of 88 on museum-quality 100% cotton rag using the finest archival inks available. Each print also comes with a certificate of authenticity. I know these prints will not last long, so make sure you head over before it is too late.

Preview: Aaron Nagel “Marks” @ Shooting Gallery
As stated earlier in the week with the White Walls Studio Visit, Aaron Nagel’s solo show “Marks” will be opening at the Shooting Gallery in San Francisco this Saturday, March 6th. This is Aaron’s largest and most cohesive body of works; “The eleven oil paintings in this series use imagery of youthful women in the nude, often impaled by archery arrows. These figures embody Catholic martyrs such as St. Sebastian, offering atheists and skeptics an alternative to traditional religious symbolism. Although the women are naked and impaled their facial expression and body language is unaffected. Standing tall with transfixed eyes, the figures’ hands are often dripping with black paint to represent a guilty and nefarious past. As Aaron is inspired by the contrast between power and the fragility of the human body, Marks is infused with imagery that is at once calm and violent.”

“Best Friends” original drawing by Ana Bagayan
Ana Bagayan will be adding an original drawing to her online shop this Saturday March 6th at 2pm. The last one she put up sold the same day, I imagine this one will do the same. The drawing is 14″ x 18″, graphite on Rives BFK paper, and will be shipped framed (allow 2 weeks for framing).
