Brandon Vickerd is a sculptor currently working out of Toronto, Canada and is a Professor of Visual Arts at York University. He received his BFA at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and his Masters at the University of Victoria. He has shown work in a huge list of exhibitions, has won more than a dozen awards, and is currently represented by Art Mûr in Montréal. Quoted from his statement Brandon’s work “is an examination of sculpture as a catalyst for critical thought, enriching the audience’s engagement with the physical world through the creation of spectacle.” Looking at the images below, you can see what a spectacle they are. “Coral Hound” print by James Jean
Currently available from the Martha Otero Gallery is a new limited edition print from James Jean. “Coral Hound” was first shown at the Hong Kong Art Fair from May 26-29th. The original was made with color pencil, graphite, acrylics, and digital and was 30″ x40″ on Hahnemühle Fine Art Paper with Genuine Palladium Leaf. The print is 44″ x 34″, with an image size roughly the same as the original work. It is signed and numbered in an edition of only 10. Invisible Man and The Mummy prints from Mondotees
Dropping sometimes today, August 11th, is two new prints from Mondotees. “Invisible Man” by Kevin Tong, which is a 24 x 36″ screenprint, signed and numbered in an edition of 285, and “The Mummy” by Martin Ansin, which is also a 24″ x 36″ screenprint in a signed edition of 285, and there is a snazzy variant edition that’s in an edition of 150. These prints will drop randomly today, and like all Mondotees prints should sell out in seconds.

Review: Shawn Barber “Youth of Today” @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery
Now that I live in San Francisco, the idea is to go to as many shows as possible and continue writing reviews, and filming new videos for the shows that are most inspiring. I don’t often get to see the shows on the reception night, but I do manage to see them before they are taken down. Shawn Barber’s latest solo show, “Youth of Today” at Fecal Face Dot Gallery is a good example, as I saw this show during the last week it was up. Shawn is no longer located in San Francisco, and this is his latest solo show in SF since he moved to Los Angeles. This new exhibition featured 4 large scale painting that ran in a series, and 7 smaller paintings on the opposite wall. The work in this show continues Shawn’s “Doll Series”, which are all inspired by his concern of a world becoming more enthralled with pop culture. “Embodiments” by Jeremy Enecio @ Gallery Nucleus
On August 6th at Gallery Nucleus, a new solo show by New York based illustrator Jeremy Enecio opened. The show, entitled “Embodiments”, features 7 new works made with either acrylics or oils. Jeremy has an amazing style, and if your fab of such artists as Phil Hale, Sam Weber, Ashley Wood, and James Jean, then Jeremy’s work is along the same lines of quality, feel, and execution. “Astronaut Suicides” by Neil Dacosta
Regardless of whether or not you were a fan of the space program, the fact the US no longer is funding the NASA program like it used to, and the fact that we recently found flowing water on Mars, the idea of space travel is a hot topic right now. With artists like Jeremy Geddes creating amazing astronaut paintings, those fans of space travel can now look to the art of Neil Dacosta. A photographer based out of Portland, OR, Neil worked on a series of photos entitled “Astronaut Suicides”. In 2010 Barack Obama stated that “I understand that some believe that we should return to the surface of the moon but I have to say this bluntly, we have been there before”, (source). So for all those with dreams of space travel, and those young at heart that wanted nothing more than to be an astronaut, check out the series below and see that others feel the sharp twinge of an era now passed.

Prints: “Waiting 73” by Brett Amory
1xrun has been releasing some killer prints lately, if you have missed some of the releases make sure to check out the Creep Machine facebook group (here), where we also post print released and upcoming events. The print is from Brett Amory, who recently closed his solo show “Dark Light” that took place at the Jonathan Levine Gallery this past July. The print is 12″ x 16″ on 100% archival cotton paper, signed and numbered in a max edition of 40.
