“Cthulhu Rising” by Dan Harding
August 20th was the birthday of legendary horror author, H.P. Lovecraft. I planned on making a post filled with Lovecraft inspired works, but decided instead to show just one work of art. “Cthulhu Rising” by Dan Harding is the perfect painting to show on this occasion. While a portrait of Lovecraft would have been fitting, this painting featuring his iconic character Cthulhu, perfectly embodies the feel and energy Lovecraft’s stories have held for so long. I could easily imagine this painting being the cover of a book. The original work was a commission, 12″ x 16″ oil on masonite. However, if you really like this image head on over to Dan’s online shop for a 11″ x 14″ print on textured linen paper for only $20.

The junk portraits of Zac Freeman
Zac Freeman is a graduate of Jacksonville University and since 1999 has been collecting various junk, that he uses to create these amazing portraits with. Zac takes the found junk and then glues it to a wood substrate, something like chipboard or particle board, all in order to create a portrait when seen from a distance. As stated in his bio “I feel the junk is more powerful being present. It is an actual thing to be reckoned with that existed in this time and place and carries energy in and of itself.” The works are pretty big, most coming in around 26″ x 30″ up to 48″ x 60″. Take a look at the preview images and then over to his website for more works.
