The Art of Rena Littleson
Rena Littleson, an artist working out of Australia, received her B.A. in contemporary arts in 2005 and Post Graduate Degree in Graphic Design at RMIT in 2006-2007. I first saw her work on Perfect Laughter, a great art blog, and thought I would share her work here as it’s not often artists that create amazing work in pencil is seen here. She did this series of drawings for an upcoming show group show in Melbourne entitled Drawn Again. As you can see Rena is extremely talented with graphite, and aside from creating these photo-realistic drawings, you can also see some more cartoon inspired works on her homepage. So she’s quite versatile as well.

“Necropolis” Dark Art Group Show @ Congregation Gallery
This past weekend was a good time for art fans as a handful of amazing shows opened up. One of which was “Necropolis”, a dark art group show that opened at the Congregation Gallery on Saturday. The show features work by Nikko Hurtado, Christopher Peters, Cam Rackam, Christopher Ulrich, Larkin, Dan Harding, Scott Holloway, Buddy Nestor, Jeremy Cross, Jason Soles, Aunia Kahn, Christopher Conte, Kolaboy, Chad Savage, the Creep, Jason Hernandez, Sean Chappell, Scarecrowoven, Liv Rainey-Smith, and many more. The show will be on view until roughly August 12th. I was very happy to see the work of Kolaboy, as I have been a fan of his since around the time this site started. Liv Rainey-Smith also made some amazing little block prints.

Michael Ryan & Bradly Platz – “The Order” @ Modern Eden
Opening this Saturday, July 16th at the Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco is a new duo show from Michael Ryan (featured) and Bradly Platz. The show is entitled “The Order” and is not the first time these two artists have shown together. Eclectix Gallery in El Cerrito was responsible for previously showing the work of these two talented artists. I was lucky enough to have Michael Ryan show a painting in the “This is the End” exhibition that took place at the Alternative Cafe, and I am happy to see some new work from him. He is an outstanding painter, and the work really deserves to be seen in person. The reception is from 7-10pm and the show runs until August 13th, so make sure you stop by if you can. For all the Creep fans that can’t make the show, we will have a video walk through of it along with photos and a review this coming week.

“Menagerie” series by Laura Bifano
Laura Bifano, an artist featured on the Creep Machine back in 2009, is working on a new series of work that is very exciting. Entitled “Menagerie”, this new series is a collection of 10 pixel animal paintings “inspired by (Laura’s) love of nature and fascination with vintage video game aesthetics.” The backgrounds of these paintings are exquisite and the juxtaposition of the pixel based animals really makes this series unique. It’s a great idea and I love that Laura decided to make an entire series based on it. The paintings are being released over a course of a couple of weeks, you can follow on her Tumble page below, and each painting will also be available as a print on her Etsy site.
