    Today’s piece if from an illustrator out of Romania, Dominus Elf. I was looking for some more info about the Revelations weekend, and stumbled onto this work. The artist says that it was inspired by the work that Andrew Jones does. If you have seen any of Andrew Jones work, you can clearly see the influence.

    I love the colors, they really pop out at you, and all the little details and shapes in this one really make this an intense piece. Head on over to the artists site, he has a lot of impressive work and even some tutorials and brushes for the artists out there.

  • Ahren Hertel Show online, print available

    OnGuard.jpgThe solo show of Ahren Hertel at the Gallery 1988 in LA is now online for you to oogle at. The pieces look amazing, it really helps that G1988 has a killer photographer. In some of the photos you can really see the canvas texture, and they are all well lit. I love the imagery that is in each of these pieces, the reoccurring characters, the worms, eggs(?) and of course the big eye, little eye thing he has going on.

    There is such a good variety of work, he has oil on canvas, graphite on paper and even some hand sculpted works. They also have a print available based on the drawing “On Guard”. The print is a 10×17″ lithograph, and each one has also had some oil paint added, so you know each print is different. The prints are limited to 25.   • “Revelations” Art and Design Workshop

    seattleworkshop.jpgEvery Year ConceptArt.org and Massive Black put together a weekend workshop, filled with the best artists in the business. Teaching techniques in anything from digital art, painting, life drawing, you name it. If the best tricks are to be learned from successful artists, then this is the best place to go.

    This years event is called Revelations, and will be at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center in Seattle, WA. It will be from January 4th to the 7th. The list of artists that will be teaching there is amazing, here’s a sample: Andrew Jones, Jason Chan, Shawn Barber, Kevin Llewellyn, Brom and Michael Hussar.

    So if you would to go, head over to the site, or sit and home and gnash your teeth like I will no doubt be doing. This is a great opportunity to learn from such great artists, all in one area.

    Speaking of Michael Hussar, there will also be some print news released later on in the week. I’m very excited about this one.

  • Greg Houston Fire Sale!

    peircing.jpgWhile renovating his studio Greg Houston found a whole mess of old illustrations, some dating back 20 years. These are all original works. Some were published, some weren’t.

    The works are going for very cheap prices, so this is a good chance to get some killer artwork for a small price. I guess he has even more than what is shown, so once one sells, another may fill its place. There are so many there that are too good to pass up, some caricatures like Robert Mitchum, Elvis, Betty Davis and the one I have shown called “Piercing”.

    Greg has a killer style of drawing, and every piece has some cool details and expressions to it. Head on over and check em out.

    Todays piece is from an artist that I mainly know by the name C-D, I believe her name is Anna.

    The work is the most important part, and this piece is very dynamic. I’m a sucker for texture and this one is filled with it. It really looks like this is painting is on concrete, there is so much going on around the figure. Its watercolor, gouache & India Ink. I love the colors, especially around the arm, that tattoo looks great and that whole area looks burnt in.

    I would really love to see a whole series with this theme from the artist, maybe different characters with different masks?

  • Ahren Hertel solo show @ Gallery 1988 Dec 4th

    At the Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles, Ahren Hertel will be having a solo show, the reception starts at 7pm and goes until 10pm

    I really wish I was able to go to this who, Ahrn Hertel is an amazing artist, and I would love to see his work up close. He has a killer style of figure drawing, and I love the colors he uses.

    Iconography: from what I can see a lot of his work has birds, worms, reoccurring characters, and water. I’ll be interested to see if these elements will be present in these new works.

  • VIVISECT Playground IV, and some sketches

    2082996739_ef818e9216.jpgWell the Vivisect Playground show at the Gallery 1988 in SF was a blast. The parking wasn’t so fun, I think half of California was in SF, it took and hour to find a spot.

    The gallery was packed, and the line to get a free sketch from either Luke Chueh or Craola was pretty long. We stuck it out, and got some really killer sketches from Craola. He was such a nice guy to talk to, great attitudes make the art even better in my opinion.

    There was also alot of really amazing art there. Some great works from Mari Inukai, Roland Tamayo, Erik Alos, Phil Holmes, Matt Dangler and many others. I really liked the Mari Inukai pieces and the Erik Alos painting. Mari Inukai’s work has so much texture to it, you really have to see it in person.

    I also got to see some of the prints that Gallery 1988 sells close up, they are top notch. The new Craola print as well as Stella Im Hultberg’s Crazy4Cult print look great. No worries about getting a subpar print.
