  • aotd: “Like Father, Like Son”

    Like_Father__Like_Son_by_mattrobinson
Today’s piece comes from a UK artist, Matt Robinson. It’s 40x50cm on box canvas, and is acrylic paint and markers.

I love the colors, I think the orange in this one is used very well. If you look at the larger version, you can see that the markers were used for that mad crazy chest hair.

This particular piece will be in the Intoxicated Demons show in Berlin, opening June 29th ’07.

  • New artist of the month: Mia Makila

papaI have added a new artist of the month, her name is Mia Makila. I got a hold of her at the last minute and she was very quick into getting the images for me, she really helped me out on this month. Not only does she have some amazing work, but she’s very dependable as well.

Have a look at the featured page, and also the links I posted of her homepage and profiles. Out of all the 20 works I have showing, the one above is my favorite. I would so like the see this one in person, a perfect blend of collage work and painting. Alot of eye candy, and it’s got some really crazy imagery in it. It Makes you want to talk about it and see what’s going on. That’s good artwork.

  • “Inner Child” by Kendrick Mar

    vlinnerchild
In this new area I will review books and items that I have had contact with, galleries I have been lucky enough to visit, and of course painting and prints that I have been able to acquire.

This first piece I am writing on is a painting I got from Kendrick Mar. It’s called “Inner Child” and is oil on canvas. The first thing I noticed when I unwrapped this was his packaging job. He really knows how to make sure the painting is protected, i’ve bought paintings from galleries that were shipped in worse packaging than this.

The painting is 22″x21″ and feels very strong. I found out he stretches his own canvas, and this baby feels sturdy. The painting itself has a nice glow to it, this is a really good example of how pictures will never show how good a painting really is.

In person your able to see how vivid the colors are, and how confident he is in his brush work.
When you step back from it, it really does stand out. I have a few pieces that get lost on the wall. This one doesn’t.

Head over to his site to get a look at his work, if your interested in a piece, just e-mail him.

This piece is by an artist known as LilyKane. It’s a digital piece, but quite frankly could pass for traditional pencil on paper. It looks great.

What caught my eye the most, was the skills this artist has in figure drawing. The proportions are great, and the contrast of the image is perfect. I dig the “tea-like” stains in the background.

Head over to her profile and homepage to see more amazing work.

  • Edwin Ushiro solo show @ Gallery Nucleus Sat. June 2nd.

Edwin Ushiro has a solo show that opens this saturday at the Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, CA.

If your in the area, make sure to stop by. This is Edwin’s first solo show, and by the looks of the two teaser shots there is going to be some great work there. The opening reception starts at 7pm and will go on to around 11pm.

The piece shown above is one of the works that will be shown at the solo show. It looks amazing, I love the stains and the way the figure just looms in the midst of waves and all. Hopefully there will some prints at the show, and online later.

  • “MERCEDES” original painting by Michael Hussar

Right now there is an original oil painting being sold by Michael Hussar directly.
The painting is of GOTTFRIED HELNWEIN’s daughter, Mercedes who is also an artist. The painting is already framed, and is around 34×38″, as stated on the auction Hussar painted this “alla prima” or all at once.

It looks amazing, I love his use of color and his energetic painting style. He is supposed to have a dvd coming out soon that shows his painting process, I’m eagerly awaiting that.

    Here’s the auction:

Todays artwork of the day has two paintings in it (dyptich). The artists name is Jason Martin, he paints, illustrates, web design, you name it.

This piece really caught my eye, each one is acrylic on canvas 20×30″. I love the colors of both, and the backgrounds are really cool, especially the 1st one. The dark green stains are great, and do a good job of filling in for trees and what not.

Have a look at his website for his other work.

  • Craola and Naoto Hattori @ Lineage Gallery

On this Friday June 1st Lineage Gallery is opening two shows. The first show called “Forgotten Lands” features artwork by Naoto Hattori and Greg “Craola” Simkins. Both artists have a very surreal style to them, it really is a good match for the two.

The second gallery area will be showing work from Anne Faith Nicholls. So if your actually there, you can check out both shows.
If you head over to the Lineage website to gawk, like I will be, you might want to look in the inventory area. They have great Craola giclee available (below). It’s from an edition of 50 and looks very sweet.
