Kelly McKernan is an artist based out of Atlanta, Georgia. She received her BFA from Kennesaw State University, and has since shown her work in such venues as Gallery Nucleus, Thinkspace Gallery, and Art Basel Miami. As stated in her portfolio, Kelly “illustrates various situations for her female protagonists to interact with through symbolic elements in vague settings.” Take a look at the preview images, and then head over to see the rest of her work and make sure to check out her online store for originals and prints.

Tim Biskup launches new web site
Tim Biskup has recently redesigned his homepage, and has made it easier for fans to check out his work, keep up to date with news and so on. The gallery is now done in a way where you can see all the work on one page dating all the way back to 2000, and see some art you might have never seen before such as this collaboration between Tim Biskup, Gary Baseman, and Mark Ryden entitled “Snowy Black Luck”. New works by Cam Rackam
Currently at the Congregation Gallery is a group show entitled “Necropolis” (featured), that features three new paintings by Cam Rackam. The images on the gallery page were a little too pixelated, or maybe they were not taking with enough light, but either way Cam added some nice clean photos of these three paintings to his Facebook page. Each of the paintings is made with oil on masonite, and the cohesive color scheme and decorative frames really makes this a perfect set. It’s a shame to think that these three paintings would be split up, as they look so good together.

Prints: “Spring Hare” by Esao Andrews
Saw this up on OMGposters and thought I would share it here. Esao Andrews just added a new print to his online shop entitled “Spring Hare”. The print is 16″ x 16″ with an image size of 14.5″ x 14.5″, signed and numbered in an edition of 100. Beautiful looking print, the colors are intense.

Flotsam book by Allison Sommers
In case you missed it, Allison Sommers recently released a sweet new book called Flotsam. Containing images culled from her Moleskine sketchbooks of 2010 and 2011, you can see from where many of her painting ideas sprung, and enjoy her grotesque, lumpy and lovable creatures in embryonic form.
Allison currently has work up in Jason Levesque’s curated exhibition in Virginia and Thinkspace is planning on including her work in a special project taking place in Arizona in the coming months. I also have to mention that following her twitter stream is quite entertaining; this woman has a fantastically snarky sense of humor. You probably could have assumed that from looking at her work.

Medusa Anamorph by Ninja1 and Mach505
Truly Design, an artist collective working out of Torino, Italy, recently posted pictures of a project that I had to share. I am pretty hooked on art inspired by Medusa imagery, not sure if I have talked about it enough, but it’s something I wrote about for many school projects and would like to work on a book featuring Gorgon art soon. Two members of the collective, Mach505 and Ninja1 were commissioned to do a mural/installation in a factory/urban lab which hosted Sub Urb Art. The mural was done in a way that it could only be seen as intended from one vantage point. Looking at the mural from any other angle simply broke the image down into shaped and abstract forms. I liked that they chose to do this, as we know the fable of Medusa is that if she looks at you, the viewer turns to stone. So in this sense the viewer is safe to look at the mural from any point other than head on, then taking in the full view of the face, she has you.

Preview: Chet Zar – “Faces of Death” @ Last Rites Gallery
Opening this Friday, July 22nd, at the Last Rites Gallery in New York is the latest solo show from Chet Zar. Entitled “Faces of Death”, this is Chet’s second solo exhibition at the gallery following last years “Endarkenment”. This new show will feature 16, 11″ x 14″ portraits, each one with a custom made frame. This show will also mark the remodeling of Last Rites, and along with Chet’s solo show, Craig La Rotonda will open his latest solo show, and there will be live painting with Genevive Zacconi, Shawn Barber, Kim Saigh, Chet Zar, Angie Mason, Fred Harper, Billy Norrby, Matt Rota, Paul Booth, & Martin Wittfooth. Sounds like it is going to be on amazing night, as if seeing the stunning new portrait work from Chet wasn’t enough. The Art of Rena Littleson
Rena Littleson, an artist working out of Australia, received her B.A. in contemporary arts in 2005 and Post Graduate Degree in Graphic Design at RMIT in 2006-2007. I first saw her work on Perfect Laughter, a great art blog, and thought I would share her work here as it’s not often artists that create amazing work in pencil is seen here. She did this series of drawings for an upcoming show group show in Melbourne entitled Drawn Again. As you can see Rena is extremely talented with graphite, and aside from creating these photo-realistic drawings, you can also see some more cartoon inspired works on her homepage. So she’s quite versatile as well.
