    If you watch Cartoon Network you might have noticed they have a new cartoon based off Mad Magazine. I have heard quite a few people say that it’s what the comedy sketch series should have been. I have watched a few clips on their website, and they are pretty funny. John Cebollero has recently released some drawings that were made for this series, and I wanted to share them here. These drawings show how versatile John is, and how amazing his art can be with only a pencil. The “True Grit” drawing really shows his chops.   • The Art of Jean-Sebastien Rossbach

    The Art of Jean-Sebastien Rossbach

    French artist Jean-Sebastien Rossbach is a cover artist for Marvel, and has also worked for Ubisoft, Blizzard, Wizards of the Coast, EMI Music, ImagineFX, and many more. Spectrum 17 stated his work “blends a classic painter’s sensibility with cutting edge technology” and I couldn’t agree more. He works not only in digital, but watercolor and gouache which the images featured here are made with. I have been a fan of his work for quite some time, and honestly have no idea why I am just now sharing it. I hope you enjoy his work as much as I do.   • Review: “A Thin Line” – Aaron Nagel @ Shooting Gallery

    One June 11th, The Shooting Gallery in San Francisco opened the latest solo show, “The Thin Line”, from Oakland based painter Aaron Nagel. This is the second solo exhibition the artist has had at the gallery, the first being “Marks” (reviewed) that took place March 2010. Since that time he has had a few paintings in group shows, but aside from the few that took place in the Bay Area I rarely got to see any new work in person.

    I was very excited to see this new show, but didn’t make it to the gallery until this past weekend, which doesn’t bother me since I can take some good photos and new video. I really like the idea of taking videos of these shows from here on out, and have gotten a good response from fans across the globe that can’t see the works in person. While I try to do the best I can with the videos, getting in close and trying to capture all the detail I can, there is no replacement for seeing these works in person. Especially when you see how exquisite Aaron’s brushwork is. It really is hard to believe that he is self-taught, and is a testament to hard work and achieving your goals no matter what.   • Photos: “Under the Gun” group show @ Articulated Gallery

    It has been while since I have been asked to curate a show, and is something I would like to do more often. Articulated Gallery needed a show for the month of June and they asked me to whip together a quick group show, and since time was limited “Under the Gun” was born. The show features work by Chet Zar, Dan Harding, Jessica Ward, Apricot Mantle, Patrick Deignan, John Cebollero, Godmachine, Megan Frauenhoffer, Larkin, Jon Macnair, Jessica Stewart, and Cate Rangel. I am very happy with the show, and was also happy to have some new talent such as Jessica Stewart (featured) and Megan Frauenhoffer (featured) in the show. The show will be up until July 1st, so if you haven’t had a chance to stop by yet, make sure you do. Otherwise I took some photos and made a new video of the exhibition.     R.S. Connett has just opened his new online shop, filled with open edition, limited edition, canvas prints, and even originals. There is also a print of a newly created piece of art “Pharmagarden” that was commissioned by a Pharmaceutical executive no less, in the shop.   • Preview: “Monkey in the Middle” by Ken Keirns @ My Plastic Heart

    Opening tonight, Friday June 17th, is a new solo exhibition from Ken Keirns entitled “Monkey in the Middle”. This new show features toys, paintings, and “other such nonsense”, and with Kens unique style and ability to create these beautifully rendered portraits, it’s bound to be a great show. You can also see in the couple of the paintings that he has added some pop culture reference, such as Yoda and even Oscar the Grouch, if that’s pop culture now or nostalgia I have no idea. Keep your eye on the site for the full show to be opened up, and if you are in the area make sure to stop by the reception that opens from 6-9pm.

  • The Indoor and Outdoor Art of Aryz

    I was first introduced to the work of Aryz from Godmachine and a random Twitter post he made. Aryz is a street artist out of Barcelona. He has an amazing style with some intense color palettes. Along with the street art he also does illustrations using graphite and photoshop to color the works in. The colors seen in these pieces is a little more muted, and I like the idea that his indoor work compared to his outdoor work, is still very much attributable to him, but the colors and style change a bit.   • New prints by Nicoletta Ceccoli & Amy Sol @ Virtu Art Gallery

    Virtu Art Gallery has been working hard on releasing some amazing prints lately. New exclusive limited editions by Martin Wittfooth, Amy Sol, and Nicoletta Ceccoli. There are now three prints by Nicoletta; “Nectar”, “Elephant’s Journey”, and the most recent “The Witching Hour”. The new edition by Amy Sol is entitled “Marigold and the Honey Helper” and is on German Etching paper with deckled edges, and hand embellished with accents of gold.
