  • Kris Kuksi’s Triumph Opens at Joshua Liner

I recently had the pleasure of attending the opening reception for Kris Kuksi‘s latest show, Triumph, at Joshua Liner Gallery. Every time I see his work, it has evolved in some way, which is refreshing to see. Kris’s work has a schtick to it, however each individual piece has its own strength and power overwhelming any threat of triteness. His works are engrossing and can keep your attention for hours tickling your eyes with their beautiful forms and distracting you with their meta-narratives.

When you see Kris’s works in person, it’s important to look into each corner and crevice. Crouch down to look at the undersides of each assemblage so you can take in his works fully – his works could likely be flipped upside down to reveal entirely new worlds. Full of ideas, plays between good and evil, with a touch of humor here and there, it’s hard to stop exploring each work to move on to the next. Regardless of the large crowd, I was able to take some detail shots of his work, shared below.

Kris is also an avid painter. His sculptures have upstaged his oil paintings for the past few years. It was thus nice to see that for Triumph Kris had painted a portrait of artist Ewelina Koszykowska, a large acrylic and mixed media on wood with a raised pattern. This mysterious painting sets the sculptures off quite well, adding color to his stark white palette. Also new is a bronze version of his Churchtank sculpture, its detailed texture and weight add to this already stunning work.

Triumph will be on view until April 7th.

  • Chet Zar’s “Conjoined” @ Copro Gallery

This past Saturday, January 22nd, the Copro Gallery opened a very exciting show curated by Chet Zar. “Conjoined” is a group show in which the participating artists created works that are 3d in design. Very few shows in this art scene contain 3d works, and a whole show dedicated to them was well overdue. Thanks to Chet for curating such an amazing, and needed exhibition. Some of the participating artists include: Adam Jones, Kris Kuksi, Annie Owens, Attaboy, Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Dave Pressler, Colin Christian, Charles Krafft, Jon Beinart, Neil Winn, Scott Radke, Chantal Menard, Bill Basso, Paul Chatem, Zombienose, Jordu Schell, Meats Meier, Craig Skibs Barker, Scott Hove, Craig LaRotonda, Chris Conte and many more. The gallery is still working on getting the entire show online, but there is quite a lot of work to be seen. I was happy to see some art submitted by Wayne Coyne (Flaming Lips), and Adam Jones (Tool).

  • Kris Kuksi – Divination and Delusion Pre-Order

Kris Kuksi – Divination and Delusion Pre-Order

The Beinart Surreal Collective, has just sent a new book to the publishers to be released this coming December. A new book on the works of Kris Kuksi entitled “Divination and Delusion”. The book was to be released this September, but 40 extra pages were added so the book as been pushed back, but with the extra pages the wait will be well worth it. The work of Kuksi is absolutely mind-blowing; to see these works in person is really something special. While a book is rarely a good replacement for seeing the art in person, this book allows one to not only add a great to book to their collection, but to really delve into the intricacies of Kuksi’s work. Each assemblage is so hyper-detailed, its often hard in a gallery setting to really see everything in each work displayed. The book is in pre-order, so head on over and make sure you get a copy.

Rue Morgue Magazine is always a must have for any horror fan, and now the 100th issue looks as though it will be a great collectible for art fans as well. Creep Machine was given an exclusive preview of the art that will be found in this milestone issue. I’m sure you will recognize most of the names that are participating in this feature, and will make your way to the local bookstore to pick up a copy. Here is an image of the cover, and the press release, make sure you click the link for the art.

To celebrate their milestone 100th issue, Rue Morgue commissioned sixteen of the best dark artists, established and up and coming, to each create an original piece that exemplifies a personal nightmare, and tell us why the work haunts them. The results will scare you too. • Hi Fructose 5th Anniversary Exhibition @ Copro Gallery

This past March 13th, the Copro Galley opened the 5th Anniversary Exhibition for Hi Fructose. Along with this amazing group show, Eric Fortune and Michael Page also had solo shows up as well. The group show featured some inspiring work by KMNDZ, Scott Hove, Martin Wittfooth, Lori Earley, Eric Fortune, Craola, Chet Zar, Amy Sol, Kris Kuksi, Jonathan Viner, Chris Mars and many more. The Eric Fortune works are not up on the site as of yet, but the Michael Page solo show is. His latest works have been more abstract, and less figurative than earlier pieces. These paintings still hold the same narrative feel that his older works had, and are even more mysterious than ever. The colors are breathtaking, and I like the idea that he decided to change his work up a bit. Take a look at the preview images from the shows, and then head on over and see all of the works.
