  • Review: “Absolute Happiness” by Serge Gay Jr @ Spoke Art

On December 3rd at Spoke Art in San Francisco, the latest solo show from Serge Gay Jr entitled Absolute Happiness opened. The same night this show opened I was at the reception of Dan Harding and Joanne Augustine’s I See You See Show (reviewed), so of course I had to check out the show a few days later. I was surprised to see that even though the reception was past by a few days, the gallery had a good amount of people inside, one of which was the artist himself. I not only grabbed some photos, but was also able to talk to Serge a bit about his working process and inspirations.

  • New prints by Tim Doyle @ Spoke Art

This Friday, December 9th, Spoke Art will be releasing two new prints by Tim Doyle. The great thing about these prints is that they are screen-prints on wood panel, so I imagine you can just hang them up with no worries about framing. The first print is entitled Got to be Kind and is inspired by Kurt Vonnegut. The image was first made for the Adaptation Author’s show at Benjamin Benjamin Gallery in Portland. The print is 16″ x 20″, serigraph on wood, signed and numbered in an edition of 15. The next print is He is the Zissou and is based on Bill Murray’s character from The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. This print comes in two versions, one on wood and one on paper. Both prints are 16″ x 20″, signed and numbered in editions of 75 for paper, and 10 for wood. The wood prints are limited one per customer.

  • Reviews: “Semiprecious” by Sam Wolfe Connelly @ Spoke Art

Reviews: “Semiprecious” by Sam Wolfe Connelly @ Spoke Art

On October 8th, Spoke Art in San Francisco opened the first solo show of New York artist Sam Wolfe Connelly. Having recently graduated with a degree in illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design, it’s amazing that Sam already has a solo show, and a very strong one at that. He has previously shown work with Gallery Nucleus and Bold Hype, but this was his opportunity to show a series of works that will not only show his considerable talent, but the consistency, and cohesiveness. I stopped by the reception night, took a look at the works, snapped some photos, and was able to talk to Sam for a bit about his working process.

  • Review: “Moleskine Project” – Rod Luff @ Spoke Art

On Thursday May 5th, Australian artist Rod Luff opened his solo exhibition the “MoleSkine Project” at the newly opened Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco, CA, the latest endeavor by Ken Harman, who brought art fans the “Bad Dads” and “Quentin VS Coen” group shows. The new gallery has some great things in store for the next year, and this new show from Rod Luff was a great way to kick it off. I stopped by the gallery to check out the work in person, take some photos and video, and was even able to talk to Rod a bit about his working process and inspirations. We have an exclusive video that will hopefully give fans a better idea of what the show looks like in person. Hit the “read more” link to the video, images, and full review.

  • Preview: Rod Luff – “Moleskine Project” @ Spoke Art

Spoke Art, the force behind the Bad Dads and Quentin Vs Coen group shows, are opening a San Francisco based gallery this Thursday May 5th. To kick off the very first reception of this new space, Rod Luff, who recently showed at the Phone Booth Gallery, will be showing some new works. The Moleskine Project features framed pages from an entire sketchbook the artist filled with oil paintings, sketches, studies, and more. The gallery also made the great decision of having the works framed in a way so that you can turn it around and still see what was on the other side of the pages, so no work by this exciting artist has been lost. The reception opens @ 5pm and the show will be up until May 28th. I’ll be stopping by to check out the work, take some photos, and even a video. Prepare for a more in depth review soon.
