Artist of the Day: Justin Reed

Justin Reed doesn’t have a whole lot about himself on his site, other than “(he) was born in 1979, and received a BFA in Illustration from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. He currently resides in Vermont.” What drew me to his work, besides being a skilled painter, are these amazing “widescreen” formatted pop mashups that he does. So instead of another painting of a certain Hollywood character, you get a mural style painting that has been treated with Justin’s almost caricaturized way of bringing these figures together.

He does take commissions, and I know that the wait is pretty hefty but it’s bound to only get longer. Also, Dixonfoma has an interview with him that goes through his inspirations and working process.

Thanks very much for mentioning my interview with Justin. His attention to detail and ability to tell a story in widescreen acrylic format makes him the phenomenal artist he is. He was so kind with his time and correspondence to put the interview together with me.

This is a fresh take on art involving celebrities. Understandable why there is a wait for his commissions.
