  • Featured Artists: Ego & Christopher Uminga

The featured artists for March are now up.

Christopher Uminga and Ego are the featured artists for this month, and i’m a huge fan of both of their work. Both of these artists will be showing work in the upcoming “Attack of the B Movie Art Show”, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with.

For now, head on over to the “Featured Artists” area and check out the amazing work by both of these artists.

  • Shows this Weekend: Kathie Olivas, Scars & David Choe

Rabbits.jpgAt the Gallery 1988 in San Francisco, Kathie Olivas has a solo show called “Bittersweet”. The show looks amazing and I like I stated in a previous post, there is a huge amount of work to be seen. Check it out Here.

Brian Horton has a show/contest at the Strychnin Gallery in Germany. The opening night will reveal the winner of the lucky lady that was able to get a portrait painted by Brain Horton. Check it out Here.

Kathie Olivas also has a new print available in the Circus Posterus store. It’s a print from one the pieces that will be shown at Gallery 1988. So if you don’t have the ability to go to the show, you can still get a print that most likely people will have to wait in line for. The print is called “The Desecrationists” (shown) and is from an edition of only 25. You can get it here.

  • “Fawn”, new limited print by David Stoupakis

fawn_print.jpgDavid Stoupakis has a new limited edition print that is available. It is from his piece “Fawn” that was shown at the Limited Addiction Gallery this past February.

The print is signed and numbered, 14″ x 17″ w/ 11″ x17″ image area on archival paper. This print is an edition of 100 and is $75. That’s an amazing price for a print that looks this good. The colors and the whole feel of this piece is really striking. That green around those blood red eyes really draws your eye in.

I don’t imagine this print will be available for very long, so head on over to David’s site and pick on these up.

  • aotd: “I Love You”

    I_LOVE_YOU_by_aleksandracupcake.jpg
Today’s piece is from Aleksandra Marchocka an illustrator out of Warsaw, Poland. Not only does she do digital work but if you look in the artists gallery, you can see that she can also paint very well.

The colors in a lot of her illustrations have that same kind of “candy” feel to them, much like Tara McPherson’s work. I could really picture Aleksandra doing some poster art as well. If I had a band I would love to have her work promoting the music. This piece is about how the Grim Reaper loves the tooth fairy. I love the concept of the piece.

Take a loo at her gallery, there really is some killer work there. Hopefully we will see her worn start to make it’s way around the gig posters type of sites. If that’s what she wants to do of course.

  • Two new prints from Letter Pressed

helton.jpgThe amazing Letter Pressed has two new artists series prints being released this Friday, February 29th. This is a pre-order sale, the prints will be shipped around March.

The first print is by gig poster artist Justin Helton (Status Serigraph). It’s called “Perm” (shown) and is a 6″ x 6″ 1 color letterpress print. It’s limited to 50. I love this print, the limeade color is really crazy and it fits the imagery well. You really have to look close to see all the subtle details in this piece, such as the skull irises in the left figure.

The second print is by Nathan Stapley. The print is “Human Monkey” and is a 5″ x 7″ 2 color letterpress print on natural paper. This print is also limited to 50. Nathan has a very unique style of painting, it’s great to see how well his style translated over to a print like this. Oh, and monkeys completely rule so that makes this print even better if you ask me.

  • aotd: “Bjork”

    Bjork_by_doublenape.jpg
It pretty much rained the whole weekend where I live, so the best thing to do was to relax and listen to music. I was looking around to see if anyone had made any paintings inspired by Bjork and found this one.

I love it when an artist makes a portrait of someone and doesn’t try to make it look as lifelike and “photographic” as possible. You can clearly see who this is supposed to be, and it has a unique quality to it and the artists voice is shown in the work. This painting is done by Gregory Dubois, and it looks like his page hasn’t been updated in a while. No clue where he is now, but he has some great work on his page. Kurt Kobain, Audrey Hepburn, Stephen King, James Dean & more. All of them look great.

If you would like to check out Greg’s work and maybe see if you can get in touch with him, check his page here: Greg Dubois Illustration

If your in the Los Angeles area (Costa Mesa) this weekend, Kat Von D’s “Musink” festival is going on. Music, art and tattoos. There is a huge list of artists I would love to see, not to mention get tattooed by Hannah Aitchison or Bob Tyrrell. Looks like it’s going to be a great turnout, that those of us that can’t go will no doubt see on “L.A. Ink” in the coming weeks. Visit Musink here
