    __Of_Mice_And_Men___by_davidmacdowell.jpg
Today’s piece is from David Macdowell. He made a banner for the Creep Machine a while back, and was one of the reader artists over on Juxtapoz. He is getting quite alot of attention lately, and will have a show coming soon to the Thinkspace Gallery in 2009.

I like how filled his paintings are, one of my art professors constantly says that each square inch of a painting should be interesting on it’s own, and I think David’s fits that bill. This piece in particular is very busy, but not to the point that it’s too much to handle. It’s comical, surreal and trips me right out. For being so busy it’s very balanced, and fits great. I love the look on the figures face. I’m really looking forward to more work from this artist. Make you sure you check out his homepage, and stay tune for some shows. Hopefully some prints as well.

  • Hellboy Sketch by Ben Templesmith

Ben is just going crazy with the paintings here, and this time it’s a great painted sketch of Hellboy.
I see a lot of work done with the Hellboy character, and I don’t blame anyone he is very cool, but Ben’s is by far the most unique.

Ben’s crazy drawing style really makes this version of Hellboy looks nuts. I really like how he wrote the name “Hellboy” so tiny right between the horns there.

This one is bound to get up there is price, so don’t miss it.

  • September Featured artists

We have two new featured artists for the month of September. Both of these artists have worked with each other before, and even with the previous months featured artist Josh Taylor.

J.Fuchs, or as she is known on DA: Teaspoons. Has quite a nutty style of painting, and imagination. Her painting of the Boobbear, and killer peas are one which the second featured artists has been inspired from.

ip2much (or Lady Pee) does needlework, crochet, stitching, etc. I’m not very familiar with this type of work, so sorry if I mess up the terminology. I never really knew work like this could be done, these are more like sculptures.

Check em both out, and if you like them please spread the word.

  • aotd: “Pete Doherty”

    Pete_Doherty_by_julip.jpg
I’m no big fan of Pete Doherty, but this piece is way to cool not to post. It captures his likeness very well, and adds some striking elements to the mix. This is a companion piece to this Kate Moss one here, although I like the Doherty one a little better, maybe its just the contrast of the image really.

The wavy neck, and distorted face set upon those huge shoulders look great. And I love that red nose, it really helps to make that face pop, with the sunken eyes and suture across the forehead that nose was needed.

It was really hard picking a piece from this artist to show, she (E. Hollinger) has such a great style. I ended up with this piece, mainly for the great caricature. Please make sure that you look at the rest of her gallery.

  • Weekly article on SFWeekly

If you’ve noticed on the right sidebar, I have links to articles that I have been writing for the past few weeks. I didn’t want to post this news right away, as I didn’t know if I would be writing these for too long. But, I have been doing these articles now for around 7 weeks.

The column is every week, usually on Tuesday morning, and it’s goal is to show the Top 5 best prints to buy. Prints that have just come out, limited edition prints, and prints that may have been looked over. I can’t grab all the good ones though, Audrey Kawasaki’s last set of prints sold out in minutes, so I had no time to post those. I do try to get some “must buy” prints, as well as vinyl collectible figures.

The main reason I write this weekly column, is the same reason I manage this page really, I love art. I love reading about, looking at, and helping out the artists as well. If one of my columns can sell some prints for people, then I have done good work. Make sure to take a look at the past columns, and maybe bookmark to catch the new ones. Also if you have prints for sale, feel free to submit them to me.
