  • Halloween 2010 Feature

Halloween is upon us again, one of my favorite times of the year. Not only is it filled with great memories of being a kid, eating too much candy and watching horror movies late into the night, but this season is when some of the creepiest art is made. This is the second year I have posted a Halloween feature, and hopefully this one is even better. Head on over to the feature page and see work by: Chris Murray, Charlie Immer, Apricot Mantle, Scott Move, Naoto Hattori, Jessica Ward, Dean McDowell, Esao Andrews, Brian Smith, Dennis Brown, Dan Harding, Ryan Heshka, Celene Petrulak, Adrian Borda, Ego, Buddy Nestor, Edward Frausto, Laurie Lipton, Dave MacDowell, Jehan Choo, Natalie Shau, Joshua Carlton, Dan Hipp, Dienzo, Sarah Joncas, Chet Zar, Chris Brodahl, JR Williams, Tom Haubrick, Nicole Absher, Larkin, and Nouar.

If there is any art you find creepy, that hasn’t been added to this gallery, add the link to the art in the comments.

  • Scott Rohlfs “Under the Influence” @ Distinction Art

On October 9th, the Distinction Art Gallery in Escondido, CA opened the latest solo show of Scott Rohlfs. Entitled “Under the Influence”, the show features more than twenty new paintings by the Portland based artist. Scott primarily uses acrylic on canvas, and is able to get a highly rendered skin ton out of the paints. The faces themselves look a bit like some of the rendered faces of Sas Christian, but i’m sure any type of highly rendered face that isn’t picture perfect would do this. In a few of the works the proportions look a bit odd, necks being too small, or legs looking as if they don’t quite connect well. I would love to see the paintings in person and see if this is the same. I really love what Scott does with the backgrounds in each of these paintings. Head on over and take a look at the full show.

  • New work by James Jean

James Jean just added some new work to his blog. This latest series is called “Stills”, and just from looking it at the paintings, you get the idea that they are most likely stills from some classic movies. Honestly it doesn’t matter what James Jean paints, it could be people eating at a fast food restaurant and it would still look amazing. The color palettes each painting has, and the energetic, slightly sloppy way he has applied the paint, really helps make these works something to stare at for hours. Could the colors mean something? I’m sure if you look at the faces in each work, thinking about the colors meaning cold, passion, and jealousy, it would make sense but no way to tell if Jean meant for it to be that way.
