On February 5th, Rivet Art in Columbus, OH opened a duo show entitled “Broken Hearts and Party Hats”. The show features work by Jeffrey Richter and Columbus native, Gunnar. The paintings by Gunnar are good, but it was hard to pay attention to them with the work of Jeffrey Richter right above. I like the classical and industrial blend he has to his work. Each of his drawings are created with black and white charcoal on colored paper (Mi Tientes?), and then placed in an antique frame. It’s a great show, and you may like Gunnar’s work more than I did, so check out the full show after the preview.

“In The Trees: TWIN PEAKS 20th Anniversary Art Exhibitionâ€
Opening tonight, February 12th, in Los Angeles at Clifton’s Brookdale is a group show dedicated to David Lynch’s cult television series “Twin Peaks”. The show will feature work by Glenn Barr, Tim Biskup, Scott Campbell, Paul Chatem, Ryan Heshka, Stella Im Hultberg, Ashley Wood, Jessica Joslin, Chris Mars, Liz McGrath, Eric White, and more. Clifton’s Brookdale is a very unique restaurant, however the artwork for the show has been placed online so those of us that aren’t able to make it to the show, and grab some food, will be able to check of some of this outstanding work. I really like what Stella Im Hultberg came up with, the contrast and colors are perfect.

“Whimsical Cloud” by Luke Kopycinski
Luke Kopycinksi (featured) has just finished a new painting that I wanted to share. This painting is entitled “Whimsical Cloud”, and is oil on canvas if I am guessing the surface correctly. Luke added a couple of process shots to his Facebook page while he completed this painting. It’s great to be able to see how artists build up an image, especially when they are so detailed and intense as the work Luke creates. The second image is the first process show he posted.

New work by Chris Mars
Chris Mars recently added some new work to his website, and a list of all the shows he will be participating in this year. Posted a few days ago he showed some ceramic works in the “Mad Potters Tea Party” (featured), has work on view at the “Suggestivism” show at the Grand Central Art Center, and coming in the next few months will show at the MOMA in New York, Sacred Machine in Tucson, AZ, MondoPop in Rome, and at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica. It’s always exciting to see new work by such a talented artist like Chris Mars, each painting reminds me why I became interested in his art in the first place. “The Hive” letterpress print by Angryblue
Justin Kamerer (Angryblue) is all set to release another print this Wednesday, February 9th. The print was created by Justin and long time collaborator Jeral Tidwell and is entitled “The Hive”. This letterpress print is 11″ x 14″, signed and numbered in an edition of 100 for $30 each.

Preview: “Macrocosm” @ Distinction Art
Coming this Saturday to Distinction Art in Escondido, CA is a duo show entitled “Macrocosm” with new works from Casey Weldon and Edith Lebeau. Each artist created some amazing looking paintings, and I was happy to see that they collaborated on a painting as well. The two styles these artists posses fit very well with each other, this is seen quite easily in the collaborative work and even the way the show flows from Weldon’s slightly muted palette to Edith’s more candy colored one.

The Artwork of Pamela Tait
Working out of the North of Scotland, Pamela Tait went to the Grays School of Art, and is married to Erlend Tait who is also an accomplished artist. I first saw Pamela’s work at the “Draw” show that took place at the Shooting Gallery back in 2009 (here). I was immediately hooked on the way that she rendered the figure and the dynamic colors she used, which is consistent throughout all of her work. She is represented by FB69 Gallery, so you can find some originals and prints there, as well as prints directly from the artist. It was hard to pick just a few images for the preview here so make sure you check out her homepage for more.

New work by Iain Macarthur
Iain Macarthur (featured) was recently commissioned to do a giant wall mural for Be Street that looks spectacular. With his unique drawing style, he was to create a winter landscape complete with yeti. The full artwork is over at Iain’s blog (here), and there is even some more shots of what the mural looks like in the store. Iain has been pretty busy since the last time we checked on him, his Soceity6 is filled with quite a large amount of prints now.
