  • Review: Sylvia Ji @ StolenSpace Gallery

Just this past month Sylvia Ji had a solo show in London, and of course I wasn’t able to go to that one no matter how much I would have wanted to. Emma Mount attended the reception, and I was able to get some pictures and a little write-up from her. Thanks Emma!

‘Nectar’ is LA artist Sylvia Ji’s first show in the UK running 03.09.09 – 27.09.09

Stolen Space Gallery is sited in the Brick Lane area of London, a vibrant East End hub of fashion and art, the area has an eclectic mix of many curry houses (thanks to its Bangladeshi community) alongside vintage bric-a-brac and retro clothing stores.

I have long been a fan of Sylvia Ji, and not sure I would ever get to see her paintings first hand I was full of anticipation. After a couple of wrong turns in which we discovered some outstanding graffiti, we finally happened upon this tucked away gallery. The gallery is a very basic small open white space, but as such all the better for being able to take in all these works in one glorious view on entering, and we felt we’d found the Holy Grail.

  • “Girls and Ghouls” cardset by Emma Mount

Emma Mount has added a collectible card set to her Etsy shop. The cards are “5 folded style blank note cards w envelopes” and feature artwork from some of her most popular paintings. If you saw work from the “Attack of the B Movie Show”, you might remember “Cosmo Girl (Barbarella)” “The Bride” and the very smooth Vampira painting I wish was in the show but hadn’t been painted yet. The cards are each 4.2″ x 6″ and are priced at only $6.50.

“4 on the Floor” opened this Saturday at “The Gallery” in Atlanta. The show features work by David MacDowell, Brandi Read, Emma Mount & Jessica Elaine Blinkhorn. Also on Saturday, the new solo show of Shawn Barber opened up at the Billy Shire Fine Arts Gallery. The show is entitled “Tattooed Portraits: “Los Angeles”, and features some really killer works. Check it out here: Shawn Barber @ Billy Shire

  • New painting “Self Portrait”, by Brandi Read

Brandi Read posted a new painting that she just finished and I had to share it. Brandi is one of those artists that every time she posts new work I am amazed at the skill level involved. The way that she paints hair, skin and most noticeably the picture perfect backgrounds. The first time I saw them I thought she was painting over a printed image of these backgrounds, but no, shes painting these intricate patterns and surfaces from scratch.

This new painting is a self portrait, and is oil on canvas 12″ x 16″. Brandi also has an upcoming show at the Gallery at East Atlanta Tattoo. The show called “4 on the Floor” and features work by Emma Mount, Dave Macdowell, Jessica Elaine Blinkhorn & of course Brandi Read. The show starts this coming July 19th.

For more of Brandi’s work and new, check out her newly redesigned website. Brandistudio.info
