  • Chet Zar’s “Conjoined” @ Copro Gallery

    This past Saturday, January 22nd, the Copro Gallery opened a very exciting show curated by Chet Zar. “Conjoined” is a group show in which the participating artists created works that are 3d in design. Very few shows in this art scene contain 3d works, and a whole show dedicated to them was well overdue. Thanks to Chet for curating such an amazing, and needed exhibition. Some of the participating artists include: Adam Jones, Kris Kuksi, Annie Owens, Attaboy, Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Dave Pressler, Colin Christian, Charles Krafft, Jon Beinart, Neil Winn, Scott Radke, Chantal Menard, Bill Basso, Paul Chatem, Zombienose, Jordu Schell, Meats Meier, Craig Skibs Barker, Scott Hove, Craig LaRotonda, Chris Conte and many more. The gallery is still working on getting the entire show online, but there is quite a lot of work to be seen. I was happy to see some art submitted by Wayne Coyne (Flaming Lips), and Adam Jones (Tool).

  • Dark Pop 3.0 @ Last Rites Gallery

    Last Saturday, January 15th, the Last Rites Gallery in New York opened the 3rd installment of the Dark Pop exhibitions. The artists in these shows focus their work towards the darker side of art, so fans are able to see artists that rarely make dark art create something truly unique. This year the participating artists include Buff Monster, Esao Andrews, Scott Musgrove, Mark Dean Veca, Daniel Hyun Lim, Glenn Barr, the Pizz, Brian Despain, Mr Christopher, Beau Stanton, Molly Crabapple, Michael Page, Mark Elliot, Mark Garro, Gaia, Nouar, Amy Crehore and more. One of the most surprising things about this show is new art from Mr Christopher (featured), who long time readers may remember as a monthly featured artist here on the Creep as well as submitting an amazing painting to the Attack of the B Movie show I curated years ago. I am very happy to see that Mr. Christopher is creating art again. Nouar once again creates a fun, creepy painting. Who else could show a woman biting the head off a chicken, and make it look amazing.

  • New drawings by Johnny Crap

    Jonathan Bergeron has added some new original drawings to his online shop. Some of the stuff I have posted earlier in the month is still available, and with the cheap prices i’m pretty shocked. I am always amazed by Johnny’s linework in his ink drawings, the hatching is outstanding. Just take a look at “The Reader” (third shown), and you can see how perfect he can get these ink drawings. “Weird Stinky Orc” (shown first) has to be one of the coolest titles for a drawing I have ever heard.

  • “Cthulhu” print by Godmachine

    There nothing like a good piece of art inspired by the creations of H.P. Lovecraft, it’s even better if that work of art happens to be a print made by Godmachine, “Cthulhu” is a 18″ x24″ 4 color screen-print on white paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 50 for $32 each. The prints are shipped in a sturdy tube, and even come with a free sticker.

  • “It Ain’t Easy Playing Dumb” print by Mr. Frivolous

    Mr Frivolous has just released a new print. “It Ain’t Easy Playing Dumb” is 10.4″ x 13.8″ on Hahnemuhle Photorag, signed and numbered in an edition of 50. I love the line “Every Artist Should be Entitled to 100 Shirt Drawings Per Month”.

  • Interview with Banksy about Exit Through the Gift Shop


    I haven’t talked much about Banksy, let alone the documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop”
    that has been out on dvd for a while now, however a new interview with the illusive artist has been posted by AJ Schnack that I wanted to share. If you haven’t seen this documentary yet, I highly suggest that you do. You don’t even need to be a fan of street art; simply being a fan of art and having an interest in the way the art world works is enough. The film is really not about the art of Banksy, well not as much as you think it would be. Instead this film centers around a man named Thierry Guetta, who we are told in the movie is a film nut and goes on a journey to make a documentary on street art, or so he tells the artists. It’s an entertaining film, and does give the viewer some insight into the street art scene, how some of the artists work and how much work it really takes. The film takes a turn when this bumbling character Thierry turns into a street artist as well, now known as Mr. Brainwash.

    So the idea, is that due to some advice given to Thierry to make some art, this monster has now been created. One who uses a team of artists to create his work, much in the way Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Anselm Reyle and others work. These artists are the “idea men”, and the art is created by others. So is this Mr Brainwash created by Banksy as a criticism on artists of this status? Or is Mr Brainwash just following in the footsteps of these mega-successful artists? This is a debate that I have seen on forums, blogs, and overheard on subways and bus trips. The Times has even talked about the film being “A Hoax too Far…“. To me, the most interesting facet of the film is the quick rise of Mr Brainwash. Regardless of wether or not this artist is a fabrication of Banksy, the work of Mr Brainwash sells, and fetches some pretty high prices too. AJ Schnack that runs the “All These Wonderful Things” blog has interviewed Banksy and talks about the film. Make sure to check out the full interview, and if you haven’t seen the film, it’s on Netflix to watch instantly.

  • “Whore Has a Face” print by Mark Heggie @ 1XRUN

    It’s a brand new week, and that means that 1xRUN has a brand new limited edition print for sale. Created by Michigan based artist/tattooist, Mark Heggie, “Whore Has A Face” is 17″ x 20″, and is limited to 30, unless the run sells less by the end of the week.

  • “Yoshi The Forest Spirit” print by Mark Ryden

    Porterhouse Fine Art Editions has just released a new print from Mark Ryden entitled “Yoshi – The Forest Spirit”. This limited edition lithographic poster is 19″ x 23″ on heavyweight paper, embossed with the Porterhouse seal, signed and numbered in an edition of 1000 and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Like all of Ryden’s prints this one will no doubt sell out faster than you can refresh the page. I am happy that all of the proceeds will go to benefit The Nature Conservancy.
