  • Preview: “Twin Peaks; Fire Walk With Me” Group Show @ Copro Gallery

    Opening this Saturday, April 21st, at the Copro Gallery in Santa Monica is a new group show entitled Twin Peaks; Fire Walk With Me
    20th Anniversary Group Art Exhibition    . A year ago in February, Clifton’s Brookdale hosted In the Trees: Twin Peaks 20th Anniversary Art Exhibition, which had some amazing artwork (seen here), and many of he artists from that round will be seen in this latest exhibition. Martin Wittfooth, Glenn Barr, Chris Berens, Brett Amory, Chris Mars, Dan May, Chris Buzelli, Billy Norrby, Nicoletta Ceccoli, Esao Andrews, Lori Earley, Brian Viveros, Ryan Heshka, Scott C, Chet Zar, Paul Chatem, Stella Im Hultberg, and many more.

    There is some very strong work in this exhibition, I was especially intrigued with the paintings by Billy Norrby, Glenn Barr, and Dan Quintana. Stella Im Hultberg submitted another beautiful painting, and I was happy see a landscape by Chris Peters. The stand out piece for me was Deliverance by Lori Earley (seen first). I was a great surprise to see Lori submit a digital painting that had some oil, acrylic, and mixed media embellishments to it. The more I looked at it I could see her style peek out, but the overall work is a new direction that I really hope she continues with. During the reception there will be a limited edition print available of this painting, un-embellished, signed and numbered in an edition of 20. This is bound to be a mind-blowing exhibition, so if your in the area make sure to stop by, otherwise check out the preview images and then over to the website.

    “Zombie in Love” @ Gallery Nucleus by Scott C

    Back in September Gallery Nucleus opened a solo show from Scott C, that completely slipped our radar. The show was entitled Zombie in Love, and fits perfectly with the Halloween season. The show featuring a series of paintings that made up Scott’s latest book Zombie in Love. The reception had Scott give a book reading, a drawing demo, and fans even showed up dressed like zombies. Looks like it was quite a fun evening. The show and reception photos are online to view, and you can still grab the book from the Nucleus online store (here). Hardcover, 32 pages, and you can order it signed or unsigned.

  • “I Want My Music Video Art Show” @ Meltdown Gallery

    Opening tonight, October 7th, at the Meltdown Gallery in Los Angeles is a massive group show, over 100 artists, all taking inspiration from music videos for the first “I Want My Music Video Art Show” curated by Chris Marrs Piliero and Dave MacDowell. Artists such as Sarah Joncas, Aaron Jasinksi, Aunia Kahn, Apricot Mantle, Chet Zar, Dan Harding, Dan Quintana, Edith Lebeau, Jason D’Aquino, John Cebollero, Kelly Vivano, Larkin, Kolaboy, Nate Van Dyke, N.C. Winters, Paul Chatem, Scott G Brooks, Scott C, and many more have created art based on their favorite music videos. Oh, and yours truly also has a piece of art in this show (thanks to Dave for talking me into it). The reception starts at 8 PM and I have heard that a good majority of the artists will be there, so if you stop by make sure to say hi to the artists that made this show a must see. The exhibition will run until October 20th, so if you can’t make the reception you have a little bit of time to see the show.

    I am very honored to be a part of this show, there is so many amazing artists. To be honest I was a little too nervous in the beginning and thought about not entering. I will stay with my original goal of this site and not show my work here, however I am proud of the piece and hope the viewers of the show enjoy it.   • Cotton Candy Machine & Tiny Trifecta

    Tara McPherson’s new art boutique the “Cotton Candy Machine” is now online. What you will find there is prints, shirts, posters, books, stickers, skins for you phone or laptop, and even pillows. Another great feature of this new boutique is art shows, the first of which is entitled “Tiny Trifecta” and opens this coming April 9th. The show will feature smaller art all priced at $100, so first come first served. There will be no presale so you need to be at this show in person. Art from Esao Andrews, Audrey Kawasaki, Arabella Proffer (shown), Scott C, Sas Christian, Shawn Barber (shown), Natalia Fabia, Lola, Travis Louie, Joshua Petker (shown), and many more will be showing miniature works at the show.   • “The Great Showdowns” by Scott C @ Gallery 1988

    Gallery 1988 in Melrose opened the latest solo show of Scott Campbell this past Friday, February 4th, entitled “The Great Showdowns”. If you have been following Scott C’s Tumblr, “Great Showdowns” then this show is really just a gathering of work that has been posted for the past few weeks. It is pretty staggering to see how much work there is, and how many movies that Scott C addresses in these works. From what I have been told the work is selling very well, and it is the most popular movies that are selling the best. Scott’s drawing is very consistent and fluid, I do hope that people take the time to look at the “showdowns” from movies they are less familiar with and see how great Scott is at making these showdowns look amazing.   • “Idol Hours” @ London Miles Gallery

    On November 13th, the London Miles Gallery opened a group show entitled “The Idol Hours”, which is a reflective study of great historical master paintings by new contemporary artists. The show features work by some amazing artists such as Dave MacDowell, Stella Im Hultberg, Tom Bagshaw, Matthew Bone, Travis Lampe, Zoe Lacchei, Bob Dob, Carrie Ann Baade, Carles Gomila, Nom Kinnear King, Chris B Murray, Ken Keirns, and many more. I was very excited, being an art history geek, to hear of this exhibition and see what some of these artists would come up with when taking classical works for inspiration. Ken Keirns did an outstanding re-interpretaion of Da Vinci’s “Lady with an Ermine”, and even Dave MacDowell chose to reimagibe Da Vinci’s work. Tom Bagshaw, Chris Murray, and Carrie Ann Baade made some stand-out paintings. I loved looking through the works and attaching them to the classical pieces the artists worked from. I do feel that Joe Ledbetter could have created something so much better, instead of painting a small area on a print. of the original work.

  • “I am 8 Bit” exclusive prints now at A Paper Tiger

    A Paper Tiger will be the exclusive spot to get prints from the 4th year of the “I Am 8 Bit” show. The show had the biggest turn out yet, and there was amazing work there.

    The first two prints that will be released by A Paper Tiger are from Scott Campbell and Scott Belcastro. The piece by Scott Belcastro was hands down my favorite of the night, it helps that I am a huge Legend of Zelda fan. Scott Campbell is doing his “Showdown” works again, and the first print will be the first series of them including showdowns of Frogger, Tetris, Mario & Donkey Kong and so on. The Scott Campbell prints are a set of 5, 5″ x 3″ mini prints limited to 30. The Scott Belcastro print is 12″ x 12″ and is limited to 50. Head on over and grab one of them, before it’s too late and keep your open for upcoming prints. I am 8 Bit @ A Paper Tiger


  • “I Am 8 Bit” at World of Wonder on August 14th

    Tonight is the night that the latest “I am 8 Bit” show opens up. This time the show is at the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery. I took a look at the site, but no work there yet and not sure where they are going to put it.

    There is a killer list of artists in the show, some great new ones and one that are veterans of the 8 bit art show. Here is the lineup: Joe Ledbetter, Scott C., Jim Mahfood, Ashley Wood, Amanda Visell, Jose Emroca Flores, Luke Chueh, Bigfoot, Yoskay Yamamoto, Kofie One, Angry Woebots, Gerald de Jesus, Tessar Lo, Gabe Swarr, Jorge R. Gutierrez, Carlos Ramos, Joe Vaux, Joe Shea, Benjamin Marra, Deseo, Mr. Jago, Jude Buffum, Michelle Valigura, Suckadelic, DGPH, Jim Stoten, Tanner Goldbeck, Scott Belcastro, Tony Mora, Nate Frizzell, Elizabeth Ito, ZOSO, The Chung, Ray Frenden, and David Goldberg.

    There are already some pics from the show circulating around, and the work by Scott Belcastro (shown) has to be my favorite so far. The colors and layout and amazing, and it really fits the whole Legend of Zelda theme perfectly, kind of like Scott should have always been the designer for the game. I heard there will be prints of these as well, at least I really hope so.
