Skaffa

Skaffa an artist out of the Netherlands. He has a great style, and works on a variety or surfaces. He has also done some collaborations with Docvek, a previously featured artist here.
I decided to ask Skaffa some questions, here’s what he had to say:

CM. What are the main things that influence your art and style?

Just looking around I guess, Usually it’s quite random, I see a nature documentary on TV and notice that antlers are pretty interesting and incorporate it into my work, so you get cat-like figures with antlers. I also try to draw a new character every time, I hate drawing the same character over and over, and if I do I try to “pimp” it up with new style elements. So in a way my own (older) work is an influence on my newer work.

Though I must say that lately I’ve been really inspired by Takashi Murakami’s work, not so much the style but his way of working and the “vision” he has on modern art.

CM. What are your favorite mediums to work in?

I love working with markers, making something physical. From time to time I also do digital art, but in the end it’s just a lot of pixels on a screen and nothing “real”. I love being able to hold my work.

I do a lot of canvas work, but I really like to make drawings on cardboard.

CM. If you couldn’t make art, what else would you do?

I cant imagine, I’d probably be very miserable. I have to make something everyday. It even has come to a point that I can’t relax and watch a movie I constantly think about what I could be making while watching a movie.
