“Forward” MFA exhibition by Ahren Hertel

Ahren Hertel recently had his MFA Thesis show, entitled “Forward” at the University of Reno. I know he has been working on this show for quite some time, I am excited to finally see all that he has created for this show. The exhibition is now over, but I know that he will be concentrating on gallery shows from here on out. His new style is great and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with. Here is a gallery of all the works he had in the show, plus some shots of the gallery setup.

“Idiot Box” @ Gallery 1988 LA

The latest cult themed group show, “Idiot Box” opens at the Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles tonight. This new show is all about the television, so you will see work about shows that we grew up with as well as shows that are melting our brains right now.

The show looks petty good, there seems to be a large amount of artists that focused on ALF and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I was happy to see some shows such as “Twilight Zone” as done by Ken Garduno, Scott Campbell did a great mashup of “Greatest American Hero” and the “A-Team”. Marcus Shaefer (shown) did one of the creepiest “Ren & Stimpy” themed works I have seen so far.

Take a look at some of my favorites, and then head on over to check out the whole show. There is a quite a bit of prints available from the works, and I know that during he reception Gelaskins will be giving away skins of Alex Pardee’s painting as well as all sorts of goodies.

The Keep A Breast Auction is going on right now, well it has been for a bit but I am a little late this time, sorry. Anyway,Plaster Breast Casts were made and decorated by some of the best artists out there and are now being auctioned off to help fight Breast Cancer. The great thing is “100% of proceeds will help fund the Keep A Breast, youth education and awareness programs.” So this way you get some unique and amazing art, as well as help people out.

There have already been some work by Iggy Pop, Amy Sol, Ahren Hertel and other sold. At this moment there are some casts painted by Annie Owens, Attaboy, KRK Ryden, Mike Giant, Lola, Johnny Rodriguez (shown) and many others. “Modern Amusement” opens, Sept 12th

Tonight at the Gallery 1988 in San Francisco a group show featuring work by Rueben Rude, Ahren Hertel, Brandi Milne & Jason Limon opens.

The new work by Ahren features the new style that is doing now (shown). It’s a killer progression from his earlier work. The stylized figures from before have morphed into more realistic figures, but the elements, colors and icons in his work are still there. It’s a great step forward, I’m looking forward to seeing the works in person. Check out the rabbit in this one, he looks amazing.

Head on over and check out the show online, or stop by tonight, check out the show and maybe say hi if you bump into me. Gallery1988 SF
