Etsy Finds: “The Bride of Frankenstein” by Mab Graves

A Self Taught artist out of Indiana, Mab Graves works primarily with Gouache and Acrylic to create her very surreal portraits. Each painting has an exciting color palette, and one look at her online gallery, you can see that she has a unique style that is consistent and cohesive. Mab has quite a few original works up for sale on her Etsy page, “The Bride of Frankenstein” caught my eye first. It’s 18″ x 24″, gouache and acrylic on board. I love how she used a monochromatic color scheme, while the figure is stylized the colors provide that link to the old classic horror movies.

Beautiful Grim, is a project started by Daarken (Mythic Entertainment) and Leif Jeffers, an animator at DreamWorks. The idea of the Art Auction is to help out with Daarken’s girlfriend Cat who is currently undergoing Chemotherapy for Breast Cancer. Stated on the site: ” In order to help alleviate some of her medical bills Leif and I wanted to throw an art auction. The proceeds that are left over after her medical bills have been paid will go to a breast cancer related charity to be determined by the artists in the coming weeks.”
The auction has now started, and works from such artists as Glenn Arthur, Ben Jelter, Ruel Pascual, Richard Smith, Julie Zarate and many more can be found.

“Mischa” original drawing by Michael Hussar

Michael Hussar has just put up an original drawing for sale. “Mischa” is 5″ x 7″ drawing, charcoal and mixed media on paper, and is signed and framed. I have always been a fan of the drawings that Michael releases, but this one is especially captivating. The way the charcoal is applied gives you an idea of how fragile the work is, and that splash of color, watercolor I believe, used for the lips is very striking. The lips still have that ‘smudgy’ style that Michael is know for, and the frame that was chosen fits the work perfectly.
