“Bewitching” Stranger Factory Annual Halloween Show

Stranger Factory, the newest gallery from the Circus Posterus Collective, opened a group show last weekend, October 7th, entitled Bewitching. This is the first installment of an invitational annual group art show that takes inspiration from the vintage esthetic of Halloween. Growing up I was always mesmerized with the various decorations that would spring up during Halloween. In recent years the decorations are cheap, lazy looking, and lack any kind of uniqueness, so it’s great to see a show that harkens back to the hand-made, and often “outsider” feel the vintage designs had. The show features work by Andrew Bell, Colin Christian, Sas Christian, Doktor A, Travis Lampe, Leecifer, Travis Louie, Jon MacNair, Irene Mendonis, Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Rhode Montijo, Chris Ryniak, Scott Tolleson, and many more. The show runs until November 12th, and if you aren’t able to make the show in person all of the work is now online to view. Love those paintings by Emily Trovillion (shown last).

Andrew Bell and McBess @ Rotofugi Gallery

Opening tonight, March 25th at the Rotofugi Gallery in Chicago, IL is a duo show with Andrew Bell and McBess. Andew Bell’s new series of works is entitled “Love the End” and not only features the acrylic and graphite works his shows are known for, but also includes some sculptures, a limited plush, print portfolio, and even a limited edition rug. It’s a strong series of works, with the color palette of all the works being red, black, and white. McBess (Matthieu Bessudo), new show is called “Gut Grinder” and features some ink on paper works, a large selection of giclee prints (framed or unframed), and a custom painted vintage guitar. There is some good pics of the gallery with the art hung up, something I wish more galleries would do. It gives the viewer a good idea of the scale of the works.

“Dolphine Safe Kraken” print by Andrew Bell

Andrew Bell has just released a new screenprint. “Dolphin Safe Kraken” was first printed as a blue version for the 50 lucky folks subscribed to his monthly print club, but now a red version is available for everyone else. This print is a 8-color screenprint 18″ x 24″, signed and numbered in an edition of 100. There is water based and enamel inks on 335gsm Coventry Rag Paper. “We’ll Be Right Back… After These Messages” @ Rivet Art

Freshly opened this August 1st at Rivet Art in Colombus, OH is a group show entitled “We’ll Be Right Back… After These Messages” . All the pieces from the show are inspired by cartoons from the 80′s and 90′s, which in my humble opinion had some truly amazing cartoons. There are some really excellent artists participating in the show, Andrew Bell, Charlie Owens, Daniel Elson (co-curated the show), Scott Campbell, Thom Glick, Shannon Bonatakis, CJ Metzger and more.

I was already becoming a huge fan of Scott Campbell’s work, then he goes and makes an amazing Thundarr the Barbarian inspired work “Feelin Super Similar”, perfect. I also really like Jason Limon’s “Ooze got the Snorks”. I was never a fan of that cartoon, but if it looked like what Jason has created I would have never missed an episode. Along with the original works, there is also a couple of prints to be had. Charlie Owens has a print of his piece, “Somewhere over the Rainbow” limited to 38. Chris Lee has “Mr. Villain’s Class of 1983″, which is 19″ x 13″, limited to 50 and can be framed or not.

New limited prints by Andrew Bell

Andrew Bell had a print club subscription that sold out just a bit ago, but for any prints left over those of us who did not get the subscription can now snag some of these great prints.
Two new prints have been added to the DeadZebra shop. The first one is “Eat!”, an 18″ x 24″ 5 color screen print, signed and numbered in an edition of 50. The next print is “King of Corn”, a 22″ x 28″ 4 color lithograph, signed and numbered in an edition of 150.

I really dig the “Eat!” print, if you head over to the shop they show what it could look like all framed up. Nice.
