Preview: “Big Tuna” David Lynch Tribute @ Alcove Arts

Coming this Friday July 10th at the Alcove Gallery in Decatur, GA is a group show featuring work inspired by David Lynch films. The lineup of the show is pretty impressive with paintings from such artists as : David MacDowell, Amy Botello, Lesli Ditto, Apricot Mantle, Dan May, Chet Zar and many more. I personally am a fan of themed shows. I know that is makes it difficult sometimes for some artists to fit in, but I think it is often a good example of how an artists style can be pushed to present unique ideas. Some great works that are unexpected also come from themed shows, just look at the art in this preview. I love what David MacDowell submitted as well as Apricot Mantle and another unique handmade frame made out of 1600 black and white pencil erasers!

The folks over at Graffhead.com have added some pics of the “Canceptual v3″ show that went down at the Crewest Gallery this past month. There is some pretty amazing work in the show. I especially like the cans that Jessica Ward made, you can some better shots of the artwork on her site here. The show also featured some work by Apricot Mantle as well as Dave MacDowell, with his can/painting.

The “Everything but the Kitschen Sink” Show opened this last weekend. One of the artists in the show and previously featured artists here on the Creep, Apricot Mantle, took some pics of the show and now has them up on his site to check out. The show looks amazing, I really wish I was able to have been there during the reception. Or just to see it in person even.

Head on over and take a look. While your there you can also see some new art Apricot Mantle is working on.

“Death of Bella” new work and process by Apricot Mantle

The artist known as Apricot Mantle has just finished a new piece that he was working on. He also created a process page so you can see the whole journey it took to make this new drawing. This new drawing is 18″ x 24″ prismacolor on board and was made to commemorate the loss of a friends bike.

It’s a great looking piece, much like the Lady Enmity piece of his I showed a while back, this one looks like its glowing. He really knows how to use those prismacolors.
Head on over to check out his gallery as well as the newly update process page.

The Lowbrow Art Sale: October 21st

This week features prints by Amy Sol, Vincent Castiglia, Brian Despain, Mike Dringenberg and Apricot Mantle. Check it out Here

Apricot Mantle with a newly launched website

I featured the work of this amazing artist just a while back with his “Grudge” inspired piece, “Lady Emnity”.
Well, he just launched his homepage and now you can head on over and check out all of his work, as well as stay current with what the artist will be doing in the future.

If you take a look at his gallery, you can see that not only are his pieces amazing in color and design, but the frames are a work of art in themselves. I think a frame often has the ability to really compliment the work, and it can quite often hinder the work if not chosen correctly. Well in this case you are seeing frames specifically designed for each piece, and a continuation of the work as well. The piece featured below, “Brookhaven Nurse” is inspired by the Silent Hill video games, and if you view the work on his site you can see the amazing frame he made for it. Just click “view larger” on each one of the pieces to see the works all framed up.

Aint it Cool News had a contest a little while before the Crazy4Cult 2 show, and the winner of the contest would be able to have his/her work in the show. This was done also with the I Am 8 Bit show and some really great work came out it. The same was true with this contest. One of my favorite pieces was from a Los Angeles based artist that goes by the name Apricot Mantle.

It looks like all of his works are colored pencil on toned paper. Not only are the layout and poses dynamic, such as this one shown, but the colors are unreal. This piece looks so amazing. I look forward to seeing more work from this artist, and will surely have his work on the site here many more times.
He has no homepage as of yet, but you can head over to his profile to check out the rest of his work.
