Ol’Scratch print

The original painting was done by Walter o’Neal, based on a sculpture by the Shiflett Brothers.
The painting looked amazing, and a print of it is now available.

The print is 24×14, signed and numbered and limited to only 50 copies. People have been waiting for this one for a while, so I imagine it will go quite fast.

Head on over to the Shiflett Bros site to get it, the resin kit of Ol’Scratch is there too:

CandyKiller at BlueFlip

BlueFlip art now has prints from Brain Taylor (CandyKiller). I can’t say it any better than is written in the opening post of BlueFlip. “Brian creates bright, arresting images that resemble something Max Fleischer might have created had he been a fan of psychedelic mushrooms.”

There are 12 new prints all together, and when you buy one of them (or all of them) 10% of the sales go to Red Cross. I love the work of Brian Taylor, and I think it’s great that BlueFlip now has prints of his. BlueFlip is getting more and more amazing art.

aotd: “At Least I Have Each Other”

At_least_I_have_each_other_by_sawayaka.png
Agnieszka Futa, otherwise known as Sawayaka is an artist out of Poland. She has an amazing style, with what looks like some really great influences.

You can see Japanese woodblock art & manga in her work, but at the same time there is that “underground” kind of look that alot of comic illustrators have. The look has this nice lo-fi quality to it, almost as if its been done on paper as opposed to digitally.

She has an amazing gallery, and is also taking commissions, so head on over and take a look at her work and maybe have a piece of art made as well.

aotd: “Plump Oyster 3″

Oyster_ze_Plumpe_3_by_BenjaminCee.jpg
This specific piece is a the cover for Benjamin Cee’s comic “Plump Oyster” issue #3. I’m going to be buying up alot of underground comics and what not, and while searching for some I really got hooked on this cover.

Benjamin has a great style, very colorful and each piece is mad eye candy. Alot going on in these pieces, it’s pretty cool that he is able to fit so much into each piece, but they are still balanced well. He does comic strips, comics, paintings on canvas and so on. Benjamin is is one artists from a pretty hefty list of great artists from Australia.

Check out his profile and homepage, also if you can try to score some of his comics. He has a few new ones out as I’m told.

aotd: “7″

7_by_greno89.jpg
“7″ is from an artist out of South Korea known as greno89. It looks to me as its watercolor, and shows how well the artist can control the medium. I’ve been on a watercolor kick lately, and this piece not only fits that bill, but is very powerful.

The artist said this piece was made after he failed the entrance exam for a University. I can feel it just looking at this piece, I can think of all the time I have felt like this before. The color matches the mood perfect. The design int he background gives me the feeling this person is in a bathroom, or somewhere else that is just cold and sterile.

I really love this piece. This artist has an amazing gallery. After your done gawking at this piece, head on over and look at the rest of his gallery.

aotd: “The Forgotten Arrival”

The_forgotten_arrival_by_loganart.jpg
It’s been a while since i’ve chosen a photo for art of the day. So here a piece by an artist from Chile known as Loganart.

I really dig the angle of the photo, and the color is amazing. he says that the photo was taken in the summer. The sky looks quite nutty in the background, looks like a summer day I’ll never see in the area I live in. I really like how old and dingy the photo looks, but there is still a good amount of contrast to it.

aotd: “Little Death”

littledeath_hauntedhearts.jpg
This piece is a mixed media painting by an artist(s) from Spain that go(es) by the name Haunted Hearts.
The piece is mixed media, so it a nice variety of materials, looks like some sort of paper all curled up and most likely acrylic paint.

I love the look of this piece, the character is unique and amazing looking. The color scheme is wonderful, a nice burnt sienna/umber background that contrasts and pops the character out even more. Very smooth as well, the little death character looks very well rendered. This is the type of character that would make a great repeating character in a graphic novel, series of painting, or so on. I do hope they make this lil guy again.

Head on over to the artists homepage and profile to see even more work along the same vein:

“TrainWreck” show at Copronason Gallery July 14th

Coming up this Saturday is the “TrainWreck” show at the CoproNason Gallery. The show will feature work by Paul Chatem and Nathan Fox. It opens the 14th at 8pm and then runs until August 4th.

I have seen Paul Chatem’s work in person and he has a really great style, very narrative where the story will run from piece to piece.

At the same time the group show “Next Gen” will also start. It has the same running time, and will feature such artists as: Ron English, Luke Chueh, Chet Zar, Dave Burke, Naoto Hattori, Kris Lewis, Dan Quintana, Joe Vaux, Kukula, Travis Louie, Brandi Milne and many others. Looks like its gonna be a huge show.

Here’s the homepage of the two artists for the “TrainWreck” Show.

Also, you can take a look at a preview of what Paul Chatem will be showing there. Looks like some amazing pieces, his work is getting more and more amazing every show.
