aotd: “The Death of Fiction”

Today’s art of the day is an oil painting by Matt S. Bennett, an artist out of Jacksonville, Florida.

The painting is oil on canvas, and is a huge 36″ x 48″. I have seen a few pictures of this painting and it doesn’t show here but the black area has quite a lot of texture in it. That’s the one drawback of viewing paintings in photos and especially the internet, is that you loose all these subtle details. I love the overall feel to this painting, it has that Caravaggio look to it. Like the scene you are witnessing is being revealed to you through the murky black of the background. This also has to be one of the cooler likenesses of Edgar Allen Poe I have seen in a while.
