Art of the Day: “Pacino” by Dave MacDowell

I always enjoy any new work that Dave MacDowell posts. He has such a great style; not only with painting skill but ideas as well. He had a painting on view at the “MultiUniversal” show at Art Basel this past December 3rd, that I had to share. Entitled “Pacino” this painting is 18″ x 14″ and acrylic on canvas. The best part is that the painting style is impasto, not something you see with his work. He is usually very controlled with the painting, but this energetic brushy style is amazing. It still retains the beautiful colors he gets in each of his painting, and the way that he represents the figure, there is just all those brushy little marks that really make this painting pop! I really hope we see some more works like this in the future. Click on the image to see a bigger version, necessary to see all that texture.

Based on the frantic and haggard appearance of Pacino it must inspired by an Dog Day Afternoon. Anyone know if the piece sold at Art Basel (and for what amount)?

I’ve never seen this piece before and I’m a big fan of Dave MacDowell’s art. When I realized that this was by Dave I got a knot in my stomach. Why? Because it is so intimidatingly GREAT that it kinda got me upset…lol. What an amazing departure!

LOL….Seriously, his piece makes me feel like a hack! Dave, you bastard! :D
