Michael Hussar on L.A. Ink

Portrait of Hans Memling
I don’t watch very much tv, but I will say I like L.A. Ink. It must be the art. I love tattoos, and since I can’t afford more right now, I can live vicariously through others.

The show that just happened had a guy come in to the shop, and get a tattoo of Michael Hussar’s painting, “Portrait of Hans Memling”(shown). Such an amazing piece it is, all of Hussar’s work is. Then Michael Hussar comes into the shop, shows the original painting and approves the tattoo, and it did look great. I think the part of the show that made me laugh, was when the tattoo artist Corey said “yeh I just need to find some time” & “that would be cool”, when he was approached on painting with Michael Hussar. If I was asked, I’d run from my house to his, 500+ miles.

Corey did end up painting with Michael Hussar, and it was so great to see Michael paint, even if it was only for 20 seconds. I think I learned more in that 20 seconds, than in the last two semesters of painting classes. I think that Michael Hussar was supposed to have a dvd coming out, that would show his whole painting process. Kind of like a tutorial, but I haven’t heard much about it for a while.

  1. Wish I knew, I spent hours looking for that little small one.
I would love it, if he turned it into a print, it’s an amazing painting.

  2. If you contact the website you can preorder a print of that picture. I heard it is supposed to be delivered late in 2007. Preorder price is 300 dollars. I know because i just got the invoice to preorder that print

  3. I went to his myspace page and clicked on prints available, there’s only daddy’s girl that is sold out and the devil that is available, there’s nothing about hans memling, where did you got that information. I know it will be released late 2007 but do we have to wait for it to be available on his myspace page to preorder? If someone could tell us where to write to preorder if possible, that would be really appreciated, I don’t want it to be sold out before it’s even released. thanks!

  5. as lame as it is, i never really noticed michael hussar, though i had seen a few of his pieces until i saw it on LA Ink, but when i heard hans memler i looked up (i was browsing iger at the moment) and fell in love (aww, how cute) hans memler being one of my favorite artists i thought it a fitting tribute to his macabre and dim outlook. i also quite liked the method he used to paint later in the same episode

  6. If he is in fact your favorite artist you should know that his name is spelled MEMLING and not Memler.

  7. Hello,

I saw the show as well and thanks Heman for the spelling on Memling! Anyway Michael, pretty interesting stuff you`ve got and I`ll continue on with the rest of the site. No matter what us artists choose to paint we are the one`s that make the world go around. Thanks again !

  9. They have quite a few of his painting displayed in the store, as well as some other amazing art. I’d love to go in and see it in person, but not sure how that works. Do they allow people in while they aren’t filming?

  10. Yes I was waiting for this dvd too but nothing come. M.Hussar is a true “master” and for me the Carravagio of your century.
