Winner of Lori Earley print contest!

The winner has now been announced for the Lori Earley print contest. There was a good amount of entries, and once we whittled down the entries to 5, Lori chose the one she enjoyed the most from the 5.

Rachel Tribley!

I want to thank everyone for taking the time to write a poem, and being inspired by the amazing painting that Lori had created. I also want to thank Excellent Virtu Gallery for graciously supplying the print. If you haven’t had a chance, head on over and see the wealth of prints that they carry, and the new prints that keep rolling in.

I’m sure we will have another contest in the next year, so please keep your eyes open. Enjoy your print Rachel.

Featured artists for September : Justin Degarmo & Ojimbo

Since the Lori Earley print contest was going on for all of August, we took a break from the featured artists area. Now we are back in full swing and I would like to welcome the September featured artists, Justin Degarmo & Ojimbo (Jim Sheely). I’m very happy to be showing their work, i’ve been a fan of both of theirs for quite some time.

I would also like to thank July’s featured artists, Sarah Bereza and Edith Lebeau. I have their work in the archive area of the “Featured Artists” area, so while you head over to check out this months art you can also look at some of the past features.

“Art of Wormwood” by Ben Templesmith now available

If your a fan of Ben Templesmith, or even just the Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse comic, a new book is available that is chuck filled with art from the comic.

Inside the book you will find images of all the covers, unpublished images a short story that is debuting in the book and I imagine there will also be a few progress images featuring how Ben creates his art. He had some examples of how he works in his Tommyrot book, so It’s a safe bet he will do it in this one as well, especially since I know he gets nagged a lot as to how he creates his unique art.

All you have to do is either find a place online to grab he book, or like I did, order in your local comic shop. This way you are are helping out a local business. There are three versions it looks like:
The standard softcover: JUN084067
Signed and numbered Hardcover: JUN084068
Signed, SKETCH EDITION Hardcover: JUN084069

Here is an image of the cover.

Erik Jones’ redesigned website launched

Erik Jones has just relaunched his website with a new design. The new layout still holds the same basic idea as his older layout, but is much easier to move around in, and has some very cool additions to it.

The information areas of the site (about, news, contact, etc) are now in an easy to access tabbed area. Links to his other profiles are placed right in the footer so you don’t need to go hunting for them. His gallery still has the same horizontal layout, but this time the gallery is in flash. I am usually opposed to flash, but there are exceptions and this is one of them. The images are large and quite easy to see. It also doesn’t hurt that the loading/progress bar is a sketch by Erik, so it’s pretty cool to see the sketch being “drawn” while you wait.

Hover over the images and you can click the info tab which will give you all you need to know about the piece, a shop (open soon) to buy a print of the work and a detail option. The detail part is very cool, you can basically get a super close view of the works, and you can click and drag the work around to see it all. Best thing next to really being in front of the work.

Head on over and check out his new site: Theirison.com

Well, the moving is all done and I am now settled in. So I can get back to posting on this site. The break was nice, but I missed working on this site and reading about art.

So I’ll be catching up with all the e-mail that was sent to me, and getting this site back on track. Thanks to those that still have the feed subscribed.

Will be back in a few days

This is the weekend that I move, so I’ll be offline for a few days. Once I get all settled and get the new internet connection started, I’ll be right back to posting more regularly. It really should only be a few days tops.

Thanks, and have a killer weekend.
