New Chris Mars website July 1st

June 30, 2007

Chris Mars will launch his new website this Saturday July 1st. Chris Mars is one of favorite artists, and I’m very happy this is happening. I love looking at his work and I’m hoping this new site will also mean some prints will be available…

If you have never seen his work in person, you really should make it a point. His work is wonderful on the net and in books, but when you see it 5 inches away from you, you realize how amazing it really is.

Painting stolen from Compound Gallery

June 25, 2007

At the Compound Gallery in Portland yesterday (6/24/07) the above painting was stolen. If you happen to live in the area, or if you see it pop up anywhere, Ebay, forums or etc, please get a hold of them so that the painting can (hopefully) be recovered.

Of course having anything stolen is a drag, but for artists especially, this is how they make their living. It’s not an mp3, but a one of a kind piece of art. It’s basically food, rent, new shoes and so on being taken away.

Here are the specs: It’s 5″x7″ gouache painting on solid 3/4 inch thick piece of Poplar wood.

Head on over to the Land of Apak to help out.

Site Redesign

June 25, 2007

Sorry for the lack of updates, it was a long weekend and I’m also working on a new version of the site. Nothing too drastic, still the same layout really. The main things that will change is the graphics, i’ve seen the background here used on a few pages. So i’m going to work on graphics that will be unique to this site alone, unless someone steals them…

I also want to try a few features that will be more interactive, something that readers of the zine can get involved with. These ideas will take a bit though.

I’m still going to update news while I work on the new version of the site, but I might miss a day or so. Don’t hold it against me.

“How NOT to display your artwork on the web”

June 6, 2007

This site was posted on the frontpage of Juxtapoz, but honestly it’s too good to have it posted here and all over the place really.

It’s a bunch of (sarcastic) tips to help artists understand the best way to display their work. Just because your an artist doesnt mean your an advertising guru as well. There are a few popular gallery pages that I have gone to, that could really be helped by reading these tips.
There are also a good amount of artists that I would love to share their work, but can’t get to it.

I spend a pretty good amount of time, making sure this site works well, loads fast and is easy to navigate. I the Creep Machine falls into any of those tips, let me know. I’ll fix them.

Here’s the tips:

New artist of the month: Mia Makila

June 2, 2007

papaI have added a new artist of the month, her name is Mia Makila. I got a hold of her at the last minute and she was very quick into getting the images for me, she really helped me out on this month. Not only does she have some amazing work, but she’s very dependable as well.

Have a look at the featured page, and also the links I posted of her homepage and profiles. Out of all the 20 works I have showing, the one above is my favorite. I would so like the see this one in person, a perfect blend of collage work and painting. Alot of eye candy, and it’s got some really crazy imagery in it. It Makes you want to talk about it and see what’s going on. That’s good artwork.

Jeff Soto Lucky 13 Calendar

May 30, 2007

Jeff Soto has a Calendar coming out with Murphy Design. It will be a 13 month calendar and will also come with a sticker set, and a 32 page mini zine.

It looks like it will be available on July, but Murphy Design is taking pre-orders right now. There will only be 1,500 sets printed, so waiting is not such a good idea.

You can see the set as well as order over here at Murphy Design:

The artist Natalie Shau has a new website over at Carbonmade. The site looks great, and it has a very good selection of work to look at.

Head on over, you can also find her on deviantart and on myspace. She has also shown at the Strychnin gallery, a great gallery that has shown many fine artists.

New works from Kris Kuksi

April 30, 2007

Kris Kuksi has posted two new works on his Deviantart page. He has some great detail shots as well. I have never seen one of his works in person, but I can imaging they are even more mind blowing than just the images of them are.

Head over to his homepage as well, the paintings he does in acrylic are quite amazing.
