Shows this weekend: Chet Zar, Amy Sol & Glenn Barr

There are some really killer shows opening up this weekend, it’s almost ridiculous. Check em out, most of the shows are viewable online already.

Opening up this Friday at the Strychnin Gallery in London is Chet Zar’s solo show “Ugly American”. I posted earlier about the Catalog for the show, but if you can’t wait the show is online right now for you too check out. All the work looks amazing, maybe one day I will see his work up close. Check out the show here: Strychnin Gallery

Also this Friday is Amy Sol’s solo show “Karmic Magic” opens up at the Thinkspace Gallery. Dan-ah Kim also has a solo show in the project room entitled “Departing Flights”. Check out the shows here: Thinkspace Gallery

On Saturday Sylvia Ji has her solo show at the White Walls Gallery in SF, and right next door at the Shooting Gallery is the solo show of Greg Gossel. Both shows look great, I really dig what Sylvia has been doing lately. Check out the shows here: White Walls SF, Shooting Gallery SF

There is also a great group show at the Bear and Bird Gallery in Florida, “Yokai in Your Eye”. “Japanese Ghostly Zoology as seen through the eyes of a variety of North American artists (+Naoto Hattori).” The show also features work by Attaboy, Andrew Bell, Brandt Peters, Michael Slack, Nathan Stapley and many others. Check out the show here: Bear and Bird Gallery

The show that really has me excited this weekend is the solo show of Glenn Barr at the Billy Shire Fine Arts Gallery. The show opens this Saturday, and the work is all online right now to view. It looks so amazing. Glenn’s work is really the only artist that I haven’t seen the work in person, but I will one day no doubt. Check out the show here: Billy Shire Fine Arts

Chet Zar Catalog 2008 for Strychnin show

Chet_Zar_Catalog.jpgComing up this June 13th at the Strychnin Gallery in London is Chet Zar’s solo show “Ugly American”. Now it’s going to be very hard to see this show in person, so like always most of us will have to see the work online. Luckily a catalog of the works is being released, so you can see the works in print and have a collectible of Chet’s work. The Strychnin homepage has the works online to view (here) and they look amazing. It looks like he is incorporating some new colors into his work, and mixed with his great textures these new works are extremely dynamic.

The catalog is 64 color pages with a forward by Adam Jones, guitar mastermind from the band Tool. You can also get the hardcover edition that is signed by the artist and limited to 49 copies. Not everyone can see their favorite artists work in person, or own it for that matter, so prints, books and catalogs like this are a great way to surround yourself with inspiring imagery.

New prints from Chris Murray

radiohead_chrismurray.jpg
New York artists Chris Murray has some new prints available from his online shop. He has prints of both of the works that he had in the 2007 Crazy 4 Cult show, the 2008 “Toys” show and the upcoming “Everyone in together” at the SF Gallery 1988 this June.

I really dig his style and can’t wait to see his work in person, the print shown here will be at the SF show, so now is a good chance to grab the print first. The print can be either on glossy or non-glossy paper and I believe is 11″ x 14″. I think all the prints in his store are open edition prints.

Check out the store area of his site for the prints, and if you look around the blog you might be able to see the progress images of the print shown. Chris Murray prints

Featured Artists for the month of June

Sorry I’m a little bit late, but I finally have the two featured artists for the month of June up. French artist Gaetan Henrioux and an artist out of Alaska Matthew Bailey.

Both of them are amazing artists and I’m very excited to have their work on the site. So head on over and take a look. Remember the previous featured artists are still up in the archives, so if you haven’t seen their work make sure you check it out as well.

“Varuca” giclee print by Arabella Proffer

varuca_arabellaproffer.jpg
Arabella Proffer has just released a new print. It’s a giclee on matte paper print, 11″ x 14″ and is very limited. At the time of writing this, there are only 8 prints left. She will only be selling them to those that contact her through e-mail. So no etsy, ebay or galleries to deal with. The print comes signed and numbered on the back, and with a “bio and family crest as a certificate of authentication”.

If your looking for originals of her work we still have the two Switchblade Sue pieces in the Creep Store for sale.

Head on over to her site and e-mail her to make sure you get one of these prints before they sell out. Arabella Proffer homepage

Brandi Milne “Design for Humanity” auction

mermocto_brandimilne.jpg
Billabong’s “Design for Humanity” is going on right now, this time it will benefit the Surfrider Foundation. Brandi Milne has three original paintings that are up on auction for this event.

Each of the paintings are acrylic on wood panel, and look amazing. So not only do you get to score some killer original art, but you also get to help our beaches. All three of the paintings that are on auction have a water theme to them, the one shown is my favorite. I also like how the works have this feel as though they are painted on old drift wood. Must be the staining.

I’m back, the break is over

Well, the moving is all done and I am now settled in. So I can get back to posting on this site. The break was nice, but I missed working on this site and reading about art.

So I’ll be catching up with all the e-mail that was sent to me, and getting this site back on track. Thanks to those that still have the feed subscribed.
