Lori Earley’s new website, and “The Wish” giclee

Lori Earley has just launched her new website, and it looks amazing. There are still some flash elements to it, like the gallery and it’s zoom feature, but overall the site is very easy to navigate and looks killer with her artwork.

She has also re-released a print of her painting “The Wish” (shown). The print is 30″ x 40″ and is limited to 100. Head on over to her new site, take a look and maybe grab a print.

In The Store: “Zombie .. Planet of the Apes” by Heather Watts

This painting by Heather Watts was done for the “Attack of the B Movie Show”. It was one of the more unique works in the show, as not only is it super cool looking, but it’s acrylic on velvet!

Heather Watts is known for her Tiki genre paintings, and this one fits quite well in that scheme, but it also hits the zombie fan. The figure in the works in a character from the Planet of the Apes, but as you can see it’s been “zombified!!”. This piece looks amazing in person, and honestly makes me want to design a room around this painting. This one is still available in the Creep Store and the price is very nice. Head on over and take a look: Creep Store

aotd: “Self” by Christina Beller

Today’s art of the day comes from Christina Beller. She is an illustrator out of Chicago, and works in many mediums but mainly in ink and photoshop.

The work here is a digital manipulation with some painting, but it could easily pass for a pencil sketch when you first look at it. It’s a very dynamic piece, the contrast is exciting and the hair looks amazing. I really like how a good majority of her work has the figure distorted, much like you would see with Egon Schiele, and one of my favorite and more extreme examples Mannerist painter Parmagianino. I think her work would fit perfect next to Natalie Shau in a gallery, both of them have amazing styles and make some really exciting digital art.

She says this is just a doodle, but to me this is a perfect piece of art I would love to see on a wall with a killer frame. I’m sure you all agree.

Check out the rest of her work here: Christina Beller Profile

Thumbtack Press and Bob Dob Help Out

Cancer hits hard, but it hits the hardest when it’s little kids.
To help with the tremendous responsibility of cancer research, Thumbtack Press is hoping to raise $3,500 to give to St. Jude Children’s Hospital this year. That’s $2,500 more than they raised in 2006!
“Bob Dob has graciously donated all of his commissions for “Lonely Day” for the cause, likewise, Thumbtack Press will donate all proceeds of this print run to St. Jude… Every single penny.”

Two new prints from Ben Tour

Ben Tour has two new prints available, directly from his site. The prints are both on Somerset Velvet Acid Free Paper, both are 18″ x 24″ and signed by the artist. This is a very limited edition of 20, so don’t wait on these. The one shown here is “Blue Wash 1″.

I could really go on forever about how amazing his artwork is. The layering, the colors he chooses, the huge variety of splashes, splatters and drip marks. It’s all perfect.

Head on over to his store and take a look, or pick one of these prints up. Thetourshow.com

aotd: “Even Octo-bots Need Sleep” by Jim Bradshaw

Todays art of the day is from Jim Bradshaw, an Illustrator out of New Jersey. His work is colorful and filled with all sorts of eye candy. I always get a kick out of any new work he posts.

This painting is actually on an old zip disk. I think it’s great when artist reclaim surfaces to paint on, wood, cardboard and so on, but I never though of one on a zip disk. I really love the colors of this one, and the incorporation of the zip disk “center part?” into the robot. It looks all rust and worn in, killer painting.

For more of Jim’s work, head on over to his website. Jimbradshaw.net

Kevin Spacey “Se7en” painting by Chris Murray

Chris Murray has been selling some of his older work on etsy, and he just added a new one that I had to post. As you can see it’s Kevin Spacey from the movie Se7en. What a great movie that was, and this had to be one of the more intense scenes.

This painting is oil on masonite, 9.5″ x 12″ signed by the artist and even comes with the Se7ev dvd. Head on over to check it out, and make sure you keep your eye on his etsy page as he seems to be added more and more great original works to it.

aotd: “Lithium Lynn” by John Larriva

Today’s art of the day is from Portland based artist, John Larriva. He works in both digital and traditional methods, and even though he is quite skilled in both, I’m really hooked on the traditional works he creates such as the piece below, which I’m just going to guess is made from oils.

I love the emotion in this piece, for some reason it reminds me of Edgar Degas “L’Absinthe”. It must be the feeling in it, it has that same kind of down-trodden feel to it. But I also see some strength in this piece, the look on her face also hints as to someone who has had enough and isn’t ready to let one more thing happen. Think Steve McQueen when you look at that cigarette.

For more of John’s work head on over to his hompage: Johnlarriva.com

New painting “Self Portrait”, by Brandi Read

Brandi Read posted a new painting that she just finished and I had to share it. Brandi is one of those artists that every time she posts new work I am amazed at the skill level involved. The way that she paints hair, skin and most noticeably the picture perfect backgrounds. The first time I saw them I thought she was painting over a printed image of these backgrounds, but no, shes painting these intricate patterns and surfaces from scratch.

This new painting is a self portrait, and is oil on canvas 12″ x 16″. Brandi also has an upcoming show at the Gallery at East Atlanta Tattoo. The show called “4 on the Floor” and features work by Emma Mount, Dave Macdowell, Jessica Elaine Blinkhorn & of course Brandi Read. The show starts this coming July 19th.

For more of Brandi’s work and new, check out her newly redesigned website. Brandistudio.info

Shows this weekend: Dean McDowell, Phoebe Washer & Ken Dougherty

It’s 4th of July weekend, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some great shows opening up. So if you have a chance, try to make it out to one of them.

Opening up this Friday at the Rogues Gallery in Belfast, is a dual show featuring work by the amazing Dean McDowell & Sarah Sheil. The work looks amazing, Dean has such a great style and Sarah makes some very dark works. It takes you a minute to really see what is going on in her work. Try to see if the show goes online later tonight. Rogues Gallery Belfast

“How Well Do You Remember?” a tribute show to Phoebe Washer opens this Saturday at the POVEvolving Gallery in Los Angeles. A few of her keys paintings and sculptures will be at the show, as well as work by “Attaboy, Huck G, Will Smith, Todd Barricklow, Leigh Barbier, David Best
and Phoebe’s special protege Stella Brown” who will create works that will benefit the “newly formed Phoebe Washer Foundation for the Arts.” Limited edition prints of some of her works will also be at the show. The reception is from 7-11 pm. Check it out here: POVevolving.com

Also opening this Saturday is a a show featuring the work of Caia Koopman & Mark Gleason. Check out the show here, when it shows up, laluzdejesus.com

Finally at the Hive Gallery a group show with the focus being on new work by Scott Saw & Ken Dougherty. I’m a big fan of Ken’s work, and from what it looks like, he has a good amount of work at the show and prices are very nice. All of the work from the show is online for your viewing pleasure. Check it out here: Hivegallery.com
