New Works by John Cebollero

John Cebollero will have three new paintings in the upcoming New Breed 2 exhibition coming to the Last Rites Gallery this coming August 7th. The last show had some really amazing artwork, and I am looking forward to seeing what this year brings. John works in acrylics and inks, and as seen in one of the paintings he will have in the show below, the colors are intense. This painting is entitled “Only Women Bleed”, possibly inspired by the Alice Cooper song of the same name? The other two paintings he will have in the show will not feature his signature, stylized portraits, but will be some of the darker work that he has been creating lately.

Well the print contest is officially over. It was a close one but the winner picked the number closest to the number chosen by Virtu Art Gallery, congrats Ryan Shofron. This was a very successful print contest with a huge amount of entrants. I want to thank everyone for taking the time to submit a number, and for those that helped and spread the word about the contest. If you didn’t win, please keep your eyes fixed on this site, for along with all the great art that is featured I have even more contests in mind. A new one will be ready in the next month.

Thanks again to Virtu Art Gallery for the print, for Audrey Kawasaki who made such an amazing print, and to all the readers (and new readers) of the Creep Machine.

This past weekend, Fright Rags along with the Dryden Theatre put on two double features that were a tribute to Tom Atkins and Fred Dekker. They showed Monster Squad, Night of the Creeps, Halloween II Season of the Witch, and The Fog. The good part for those of us that weren’t able to be there, is that the limited edition posters that were created for the show are now up for purchase on the site. The best poster of the set is the “Night of the Creeps Meets The Monster Squad” print by Jason Edmiston. The print is a 24″ x 36″ full color offset print on 80# glossy cover stock, signed and numbered by Fred Dekker in a run of 250. Each print is only 34.95.

New works by Michael Shapcott

Michael Shapcott has been super busy lately, and with this poor economy thats a good thing. He found some time to show some of the latest drawings he has created over on his new snazzy website. Michael’s pencil work has always been a part of his paintings, but being able to see just drawings with no added color is very cool. He is deciding on whether or not to turn these into paintings, I hope he does.

RIP: Ryan August of I Want Your Skull

I am very to sad to write that on Saturday, July 11th, Ryan August, the creator of the always inspirational website I Want Your Skull, passed away. I first met Ryan back in 2007 when I decided to start the Creep Machine. I had little idea of what I was doing, let alone what I was going to do to keep the site here for the long run. I Want Your Skull is one of those sites I wish I had made, i’m sure many feel that way, and I decided to model the Creep Machine on Ryan’s creation. I became a die-hard fan when I e-mailed Ryan to ask some questions, and not only was he open to answer every one, but you could tell that he just really loved art. While many other art sites are created and then fade away, I Want Your Skull was always there and it prodded me to keep going, being the sole writer such as Ryan was can get very tough sometimes. The longevity of I Want Your Skull, and the printed zines he worked so hard to bring us every year, was testament to the love of art Ryan had.

As long as I Want Your Skull has been going, Ryan always had a link to the Creep Machine on it, as well as on his own portfolio site (here) right under the title “inspiration”. I feel happy that my little site was an inspiration to him, as his site was such an inspiration to me. My thoughts go out to Ryan’s wife Sarah and their son Declan. Thanks again Ryan for creating the best skull related art site on the web, and for never giving up on it.

Just saw over at OMGPosters.com, that there is an e-mail address should anyone want to donate to the family. ryanaugustdonation[at]gmail.com.
