aotd: “Me”

me_by_vishuskinit.jpg
Today being Halloween and all, I thought I would pick a piece for “art of the day” that seems fitting. This is an oil, self portrait painting by Nick Filth. Is it a zombie? dunno. Does it look like me when I wake up? most definitely.

I really love this self portrait, I love the styling of the face and the whole energy of it. Perfect just how it is.

If you like this piece, make sure you head on over to this artists profile to see more.

Paper Pushers @ Gallery 1988 tonight

Alberto1.jpgTonight at the Gallery 1988 in SF, the Paper Pushers show opens. It’s a huge show featuring all works that are on paper, so you will see not only drawings, but paintings as well.

The list of artists is huge. Gallery 1988 seriously puts on some great shows, between Paper Pushers, I am 8 Bit, Crazy 4 Cult and the upcoming Bitters and Sweets, I’ll be writing about their shows a lot.

I tried to make it to the show, but my car did not allow me to. Looks like it’s time to trade that ol hooptie in for another. So, like me a preview of the show may be the best.

So watch the Gallery 1988 page for more. And take a look at the preview page:

Original paintings by Zoetica

il_430xN.13083762_1.jpg
Artist and model Zoetica has put some of her paintings up on Etsy for sale.

There is a good amount of paintings for sale, and she will be listing some prints soon as well. Along with her own art, as well as modeling she also writes for the website Coilhouse. It’s a cool site that I have added to the sidebar there, and it says that they will make a print version which is coo, i’m glad to see people still care about print.

Today’s piece is from Natalie Shau. It’s so hard to pick a work to show from her, since her whole gallery is quite inspiring.

This particular piece caught my eye for so many reasons. I love the scratches, and the aged almost daguerreotype feel to it. The facial expression, the whole mouth area is amazing. I really hope this one turns into a print soon.

Make sure you check out her gallery, it’s so very worth it. She has such a great style, and is consistent in what she does.

Candykiller Letter Pressed pre-order

BingPress.jpgThe amazing Letter Pressed is taking pre-orders for two Brian Taylor (Candykiller) prints.

The first one, Bingo the Wonder Dog is “8×10 inches,two-color letterpress on Somerset soft-white 100% cotton paper, and its signed/numbered edition of 90″
The second one, Presston Mini print is “5×7 inches, one-color letterpress on 100% cotton paper , numbered edition of 50″.

They both look great, and there isn’t many of them left. As I write this only 16 of Bingo, and 2 of the Presston. I have a Paul Chatem print from Letter Pressed and it looks amazing, so I know these ones will be worth it.

Ben Templesmith’s Poppycock show online

At the Secret Headquarters in Los Angeles Ben Templesmith is having a solo art show. The reception is over, and I’m sure it was great, however the work from the show is now online for your viewing pleasure.

So, if you couldn’t make it down there but wanted to score some original art, nows your chance. I like how you get the original piece, and a print of the finished product. Very cool. His work is only getting more and more popular.

New SFWeekly article, halloween prints

indexoctoberrising.jpg
I have a new SFWeekly article up, with some really great prints this time.

The newest Crazy 4 Cult print tops the list, Nathan Ota’s “Blue Velvet” piece. Mari Inukai, Dave Kinsey, David Choe, and a special Halloween inspired print by John Cebollero “October Rising”(shown). This print is limited to only 20 prints, and is very affordable. Signed, numbered and on nice bristol. Can’t beat that, especially when the art is great.

Today’s piece is from Alice Duke, an artists out of the UK.

She has a great gallery, but this piece really stood out to me. I think it’s that the overall colors and feel kind of remind me of some of the work that James Jean has put out. What’s so cool about that, is that Alice pulled this off all digitally. It has an amazing amount of texture and really makes it look as though this is acrylic washes on rives paper or something similar.

Make sure you head on over and check out the rest of her work.

Some really good shows that just opened up are now online for your viewing pleasure.

Copro Nason. Along with that show, Isabel Samaras is showing work. You can also head over and look at Mark Westons photos of “The Talking Board” Show here.

Dave Kinsey’s show at the BLK/MKRT Gallery opened as well. I never really took the time to look at his work, but now that I have really taken the time, I like his work alot. BLK/MKRT Gallery

Chris Mars “New Salem” Show online

False_Witness_12x16_oval.jpg
The latest solo show from Chris Mars is at the Jonathan Levine gallery. It’s called “New Salem”
Chris Mars is one of my favorite artists, and along with Glenn Barr, really boosted my interest of art. When I first saw a Chris Mars piece in person, I was blown away. The textures, colors and craftsmanship is unbelievable. Pictures just give you a hint as to how amazing his work is.

The show is online so head on over and take a look. It also says that he will be releasing a book in Spring 2008, which I will definitely buy, maybe even get signed?
