Ashley Wood show, Scott Eder Gallery

ashbkgd.jpgAshley Wood has a show starting on December 1st at the Scott Eder Gallery in New York, but you can see the work online right now, and even buy it if your so inclined.

The work is from his various comics, doodles, and the killer 48 Nudes book he put out recently. It all looks great, and I wish I was close enough to check out the show. He will have another show at this gallery May 2008.

There is also a show featuring work by some comic greats such as: Daniel Clowes, Dave Cooper, Jim Mahfood, Joe Matt, Tony Millionaire and others. All that is missing from that show is some Charles Burns work.

aotd: “Jake and the decision”

Jake_and_the_decision_by_alexs_art.jpg
Todays art of the day, is from german illustrator Alex Wucherer. He works both digitally and traditionally, and it’s often hard to tell if some of his digital work has been mislabeled.

Such as this one, it’s digital but looks so much like oil paint. This just goes to show that having understanding of traditional media can really give the digital work a different feel. I really dig the character in this piece, he has that same stylized kind of figure that you might see in a Joe Sorren piece, but a little more tame.

This piece also starts a new feature for the Creep, iconography. Not all pieces have icons in them, but when they do I’ll try to point them out, and I encourage readers to post comments sharing what they think the iconography means. So in this piece we see, scissors, string, paper boat, moon and water. Now it doesn’t necessarily mean that each element means something significant, but talking about them helps to drink in the artwork.

James Jean signing @ Nucleus Gallery

Process_Recess.jpg
For one night only at the Nucleus Gallery, James Jean will be signing his new Process Recess Portfolio #2. There will also be some limited prints available. Not sure if these prints will be online for us to purchase as well.

This would be a great chance to pick up his new book, and get it signed. Once these books sell out, they fetch a pretty hefty price, so no sense in waiting. So on November 29th from 7-10pm head on over to the gallery.

“The Origin of Symmetry”, Blueflip limited print

bf_xlarge_mlari003.jpg
Today at 3pm Blueflip Art releases another limited edition print. This print is from Manuel Lariño, and is called “The Origin of Symmetry”.
The print is a 10.5″ x 10.5″ giclee print on fine art paper, and is limited to 100.

The cool thing, besides the art of course, is that 10% of the sale will go to Spectrum for Living, a non-profit organization providing assistance to people with physical and developmental disabilities. So this is a great chance to get some cool art, as well as help people.

Ashley Wood original & prints

wood_unofanta_bot1.jpg
There is an Ashley Wood original painting for sale, its from his Uno Fanta book. Its oil on paper, is is 18″ by 24″. There is some tape left on the paper, but it kind of ads to the piece, and if you really hated it you could matte over it.

He also has some prints on his site, I wrote about one in the last SFWeekly article. They are poster prints but are huge and signed, and on good paper. I have one on the way, so ill write more. I couldn’t pass it up, they’re only $10 before shipping.

aotd: “Girl on black car”

Chica_sobre_coche_negro_by_julepe.jpg
Todays piece is from an artist out of Spain, julepe. The piece is called “Chica sobre coche negro” or girl on black car.

The first I noticed about this piece, is how great the photo of it is. You can really see all the texture and brush strokes. This is how all art photos should be. I really dig julepe’s style, he has a really great loose style, and some greats stylized figures. Check out the facial expression on the girl. I’m really looking forward to more work from this artist, and will definitely be watching.

P4 & SC prints by Jason Goad

P4_and_SC_prints_by_JasonGoad.jpgJason Goad has some very smooth looking 5 color silkscreen prints for sale. They are 12″ square, and I believe you get both, the female and male anatomical robot print. This is a limited edition of 50.

I love the colors on these prints, and its a very cool idea. Just from the picture you can see how smooth and perfect each line is. These prints would like great framed up together.

You can get them directly from the artist here: Jason Goad @ Gigposters

Michael Hussar original drawing

slurry.jpgIf you have ever checked out SketchTheatre.com, you may have a seen a video of Michael Hussar, drawing a very cool portrait entitled “Slurry”.

That portrait is now for sale. It’s charcoal on toned paper, 10″ x8″ signed and already framed for you. Its being sold by the creator and BirdBath Publishing, so you know your getting the real deal.

If you haven’t seen the video of Michael drawing this piece, you can check it out here. It’s great being able to see artists at work.

Here is the link to the actual drawing for sale: Slurry Drawing
there is also a “White Devil” print for sale.

Chris Mars and Sas Christian originals

chrismars_barons.jpgIt’s very rare when you see someone selling a Chris Mars original, and I can’t remember a time I saw a Sas Christian piece for sale like this.

I had the pleasure of seeing Chris Mars’ work in person, and I was awestruck. There are so many details and textures that pictures cannot show. His work is so amazing, I would love to see this piece up close. I hear that he is going to release some prints soon.sas_redeye.JPG

The next one is a piece from Sas Christian. It’s 12″ x 16″ and by the looks of the sides, needs to be framed. Its monochromatic, and to me looks like a study. Sas can really paint some crazy eyes, so with this piece you get just one big eye, perfect for fans of what she does.

These are both for sale from the same person: Sas Christian oil painting

Stella Im Hultberg “Marla” print from Crazy4Cult

Stella_Fightclub.jpgThere is a new print from Crazy4Cult, and this one has to be the most anticipated print of the whole show. Well, I’m hoping they release a print of Dave Chungs “Shaun of the Dead” inspired piece, but this is the one I have been waiting for. It goes on sale today, November 20th.

The print is of Stella Im Hultbergs “Marla”, inspired of course by the Fight Club movie. I love the way this piece looks, she did such a good job. The print is limited to 150, it’s a giclee print on velvet fine art paper, 12″ x 16″ signed and numbered”. The print will go on sale at 12pm PST, and I know this one is going to sell out fast so don’t wait.

Some great shows online

I’m not sure what is up with this month, but there are some very cool shows going on. Many of them are online for your viewing pleasure.

dust_stella.jpgThe Lineage Gallery has a group show called “Together, Alone” featuring works from Amy Sol & Stella Im Hultberg. The new works from Stella blow me away. I think the thing that I love the best about her work is that she keeps on evolving, unlike many others that get comfortable doing similar works over and over. She lets her work grow and become more intense. These new pieces are so dynamic and rich.

We have the solo show of Mari Inukai, “Kuro-To-Shiro”. Some really great pieces there, I love her style.

invite_nicoletta.jpgDennis Brown aka Bagger43 has his solo show “Pthalo & Umber” at the ThinkSpace Gallery online as well. There are still many pieces available, I’m surprised. If I could I would snag up either ” Ci’Ci ” or ” El’Ci “. Great price, and I love how brushy they are.

Finally a new artist I have been introduced to, Nicoletta Ceccoli has a solo show at Magic Pony called “Inflorescence”. I’ve very glad she contacted me to let me know about the show, her work is amazing. I love finding new artists that can really control acrylic and come up with some killer work, she handles acrylic much like Keith Weesner does. Head on over to her show and check the work out.
