“The Hanged Man” by Apricot Mantle
The year just started and Apricot Mantle has already released a killer nee drawing. Once again Apricot shows that colored pencils can be just as dynamic as oils or acrylics. This new drawing is entitled “The Hanged Man” and featured a tarot card frame, custom as in all the frames that Apricot makes. Wicked Halo, a great art site to keep an eye on as well, recently did an interview with Apricot that you should check out (Here).

The art of Margarita Georgiadis
One of the sites I make sure to check out daily is, Artistaday.com. They post some really amazing work by well known, and up and coming artists as well. The most recent one to catch my eye was the work of Margarita Georgiadis, and artist working out of Australia. Her paintings have a similar palette, and while the figures are rendered to a certain point, the works have a very ghostly feel to them. Many of the paintings look as though the image was taken with a camera and a slow shutter. Take a look at the preview images here, and then head over to her homepage for more work.
The art of Sven Rayen
Sven Rayen is an artist working out of Antwerp, Belgium. Most of his work is all done on scraper-board, or scratch-board in which the artist uses a tool to remove the top layer of color to reveal the bottom layer. This effect allows the work to look like a drawing but have a tighter and cleaner feel to it, and when down as skilled as Sven clearly is, the end product is very dynamic. Take a look at the images below, and then over to his homepage to see more.
Sketches by Travis Louie
Travis Louie has just added a couple of sketches to his blog, just was short while after his new drawing show was opened at Gallery 1988 LA. The sketches are small, and as you can see are a but looser than his other drawings are. While these are sketches, it still shows how detailed Travis gets with his work. The two works are entitled “Henry Twice” and “The Young Chimp”. Head on over to his blog to check out the works, and keep up to date with any upcoming news.
Vincent Price, Famous Monsters cover by Jason Edmiston
Jason Edmiston, previously featured and interviewed, has created the latest cover for Famous Monsters Magazine issue number 254. This issue marks over 50 years of this monster magazine being published, and what better icon to have on the cover than Vincent Price? Below is the painting without all the text on it, not sure whether or not Jason will be releasing this image as a print or not. Either way, you can pre-order the magazine now.
Profiles: Lucas Simões
Lucas Simões is an artist and architect working out of São Paulo, Brasil. He does a variety of art, but the most intriguing is the collage work that he does. Essentially cutting and assembling portraits, he is able to create some truly unique works of art. I would love to see one of these collages being created. Head on over to his Flickr page to check out the rest of his work.
“Liberatio of Mia” by Apricot Mantle & Jessica Ward
For the “Feminality Art Show” taking place at Miami’s Independent Thinkers Satellite Fair/Art Basel Casa Wynwood Miami, FL December, Apricot Mantle and his wife Jessica Ward collaborated on a drawing together. “Liberatio of Mia” is 19″ x 15″ colored pencil on illustration board, with Jessica Ward doing the initial drawing and then Apricot adding the colored pencils. This is a beautiful collaboration work, and I do hope they choose to do this again. It’s not surprising that their styles flow so well together.

New oil studies by Chet Zar
Over the Holiday, Chet Zar added a bunch of new oil studies to his online shop. So, while many people were fighting over cheap DVD players and anything else Black Friday has to throw at consumers, fans were given the chance to pick up a 5″ x 7″, framed oil study from from Zar. While there is still a few of the studies available, most of them have sold out. I thought I would post them here anyway, so fans can take a look at the studies, and it also gives a great peek into the working process Chet Zar has.

New work by Eightpussy
The artusts known as Eightpussy (featured), has recently started using oils instead of the previous colored pencils and ink that most of her work was created from. From the looks of it, this new shift in mediums was a seamless choice. The colors her art is known for is still there, and the unique way she has of rendering the figure. Check out her new profile to keep up with these oil paintings, even though as she stated, will take a while to update.
