Dark Horse Presents is back, and it’s free.

Dark Horse Presents is the title that helped to get the company where it is today, and it’s also the comic that got into the various titles they put out. It’s been gone for a long time, and now it’s back and free.

With.. a catch, well at least to me. It’s online, but you have to visit a Myspace page that is basically where you will read the comic. Befriend them, and then read when new stories are out. Myspace may not bug as many people as it does me, but it’s still news, and I will begrudgingly visit the site.

aotd: “The Amazing Strength of Spokes”

The_Amazing_Strength_Of_Spokes_by_LindaRHerzog.jpg
I had to put this as today’s piece. Not only because it’s simply amazing, but it’s of a gorilla, riding a boneshaker (hiwheel) bike. This piece is from Linda Herzog, and is oil 30×20.

The gorilla looks so amazing, and the background is perfect for the scene. The moth on the bottom right is quite a nice touch. I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be int he scene, or on the canvas, breaking the illusion that this is a painting much like some of the Italian Masters did with a bottle, or some other object to show that this is just a painting. Either way, it’s brilliant.
If you like this piece, make sure you head over to the artists site and look at all of her work. She is very talented, especially knowing she has no formal training.

aotd: “Lady of the Shadows — Odetta”

Lady_of_the_Shadows_Odetta_by_hardcoremiike.jpg
It’s been a bit since I’ve been able to post another art of the day. There is just so much great art out there, and I need to find the time to find it all.

This piece is a painter, well I don’t know much about her really, not much written in her Profile. She goes by “hardcoremiike”. The main point is that this painting is quite amazing. It’s based off of a fictional character from Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. The rendering on the face looks perfect, I have always felt that if your going to do realistic based face – as opposed to the more illustration like, cartoon like that is going on as well – I think people should really be able to paint the face as if it existed and took up space. This one cuts it very well, and the background is great, I love the colors.

Make sure you head over and check out the rest of the artist’s work:hardcoremiike

The Second Installment of the Ninja Show will happen this weekend at the Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, Ca. I never went to the first one, but this one looks like a show you don’t want to miss. The theme obviously being ninjas, and who doesn’t like ninjas? Theme shows are great, and this one is going to be very cool.

There are 50 artists involved in this show, some which I’m very excited about like: Aaron Jasinksi, Ben Kehoe, Charlie Wen, Edwin Ushiro, Luke Chueh and many more. If you’re lucky enough to go to the show, here’s what’s in store on the opening night:
– Free Refreshments
- Come dressed as a Ninja and receive 15% off all instore merchandise.
- There will be plenty of door prizes and sponsored give aways.
- And there’s a raffle ticket give away!

Ashley Wood original, Lore Cover

Right now, eBay is littered with post San Diego Comic Con merchandise, all of which is grossly overpriced. It’s still fun to look at though, and often you see something that isn’t a keychain that was given away and is now magically $8, or a myriad of prints and sketchbooks. I did see this Ashley Wood original oil painting.

It’s for a cover of the Lore comic, and is around 16×20. It shows you how sketchy and loose his style is, it’s quite energetic. I wouldn’t say this is my favorite piece that Ashley has done, I would much rather be able to buy one of these here, but I don’t often see these works for sale.

Maybe one day he will do a show, or release some giclee prints again.

Lithium Picnic show at Perihelion gallery

Philip Warner, aka Lithium Picnic, will have a show open at Perihelion Gallery August 3rd in Phoenix,AZ.
So if your in the area head on over and take a look. I don’t often post photography shows on the site, but I would like to more often. This is a show I wish I was able to go to, Philip Warner is an amazing photographer.

You can also buy one of his prints, one of which is the image shown in the show flyer. The prints are being sold to help Philip with his current lawsuit, which you can read about here.
The prints look amazing, and there is a huge amount to choose from.

Process Recess 2 book

James Jean has a video up, a preview of his new Process Recess book 2. It’s very hard to find the first one, and I know that this new one will sell out very fast. From he said in his blog, “We sold out of our advance copies of the regular and limited editions of PR2″

So expect this new one to drop in about two months. I’m already saving. I missed the last one, and i’m not going to miss this one. He also had a very cool print at the Comic Con that i’m upset I missed.

Head over to his homepage to see the video preview of the new Process Recess Book 2:
