For all those that live in San Francisco, or are just going to be in San Francisco, Grant Gilliland is giving away art!
This is from his site:
Do you live in the San Francisco Bay Area? Do you have a blank spot left on your bedroom wall or perhaps your cigar room that is just BEGGING for some fancy fillage? Do you enjoy art but do not have the funds to regularly purchase originals from some of your favorite designers and creative working cave-dweller types? Do you often find yourself in the right place at the right time? Well, if the answer is yes to any of these questions, you may qualify to be the recipient of this original 1×4′ drawing!

That is correct, if you happen to be anywhere near Union Square in San Francisco Saturday, June 23…you can just pick this plank up and be on your way! I am offering a bit of myself to my new home of San Francisco, and I ask nothing in return but perhaps a slot in your “funny story” mental rolodex. So if you find yourself itching for a piece of Gross Uncle history, head on over to Union Square on Saturday, and bring your art carrying gloves!
Sincerely,
Grant Gilliland (The Gross Uncle)
Looks like a great deal to me, but you better get there fast. From what I hear, Grant will be having those who want the piece fight for it, Thunderdome style. So get rid ready. Also make sure you head on over to his site, he posts art there and all sorts of fun.

This piece is by James Ryman. It is oils on canvas, and is about 8×10.
I love zombies, and this is a great painting of one. Often I see zombie artwork that is rushed and quite cheezy looking, but this piece looks great. This is quality work, right along the lines of Brom and Wes Benscoter.
It also happens that this piece is for sale here, head on over to the artists main site to not only look at more great art, but maybe to buy buy yourself (or me) this piece of art.

While looking for some more organic and metal based scultpures, I found the work of Mike Libby.
He takes various bugs, dead ones of course, and adds part from watches and what not. What you get afterwards of very unique little works of art. I think its a great blend of what man can do, and the art that nature already made.

It looks like the auction for the Brush Project has been pushed the August 21st.
The show will still open at the same time, but the auction has changed. If you head on over the site, you’ll see that they have added alot more artists. Many of the artists have also included original works that will go along with the brush.

I haven’t done one of these searches for a while, but I found enough cool work this weekend to put together another one. I was inspired by the the Weta Ray Guns that will be coming out in September.
So I went looking for other metal based sculptures. I love sci-fi looking stuff, add that the rusted metal and it makes for great collectibles.
The Raku Ray Guns look very cool, are one of a kind and much cheaper than the Weta ones.
Lockwasher Design not only makes ray guns, but also Robot, rocket and other sculptures. Most from found objects.
Aside from robots & ray guns, I found these amazing lamps by Frank Buchwald, I would love to have one these babies.
The work of Christopher Conte is also quite exciting. (Image above) He uses resin, bronze and various metals. I think his work would look great in a show with the work of Kris Kuksi.

Right now there are three Jeff Soto originals for sale.
The first one is actually a sketch that was done for the 2006 San Diego Comic Con. Just a small drawing on 8.5×11″ paper. I tried to find out, but im not sure yet if he will be there for the 2007 Comic Con. Comic Con Drawing
The next two are being sold by the same person, and are both small paintings. Like around 3.5″ blocks. Not super big really, but they are worth looking at. Window shopping if you will. The one I like the most have at the top here.

In case you haven’t seen the pics from the Vader Project, I just now got around to it, you can find a whole mess of them on the following two links.
The first link is for the Vader Project Flickr account. Each helmet has two angles and the description card. Easiest way to start the Flickr one, is choose the normal Vader helmet and then move on in order. Helps you to see who made which helmet. Flickr Vader
Or if you don’t care, and maybe wanted to just guess, head over to the second link. All the images are one page, so it will take a bit to load. I’m not sure that every helmet is accounted for. Vader
The one I chose above is from Jeff Soto, I really love his style.

Today’s piece come from a Laguna Beach artist named Orion Fisher. He has an amazing gallery, this is just one of the first pieces that caught my eye.
The dripping paint looks like it really is hanging off his nose, very convincing. Also a very cool way to incorporate the paint into the portrait as opposed to just having a normal portrait. I think it would kind of cool for a small run of works like this, just a small amount so that they don’t get old, regardless this is a fantastic piece.
