The Glenn Barr solo show at Outre Gallery in Australia is now online. Wish I could have seen it, but thats a lil too far for me. Hopefully someday I will be able to see his work in person.
His work is really amazing, the way he uses color and the way he draws figures really blows me away. I like how he is able to draw normal looking people (like above) and also more cartoon like figures that have so much character to them. I picked the above piece for the color, that blue looks great and really adds to the face of the woman.

From the same seller comes two Glenn Barr pieces. The first one is a print on blotter paper, entitled “Betty and Veronica” (above). It looks very sweet, 8″x10″ from an edition of 100.
The second one is a original drawing. It was the prelim sketch for what turned into “The Ruiners” painting, it was a part of the show at Billy Shire Fine Arts last summer. You can see the painting here: “Painted Ruiners”. As you can see by the sketch, Glenn has a very loose, gestural drawing style. He has a book called “Lowlife Companion” that is filled with his drawings, he has such a great style.

The piece above is from Małgorzata Maj, an artist from Poland known as Sarachmet. She is a digital artist, that takes the photos, manipulates them and also paints and draws on them. Giving her pieces a unique quality to them, one that allows you to instantly recognize her work, once you become a fan of it of course.
If you look through her gallery there are so many great pieces, I chose the one above because of the feel and color scheme. The image reminds me of a beautiful hand painted Daugerrotype, with a nice amount of contrast, nice rounded corners, and a signature that fits well with the overall image. The colors are the most intriguing to me, sepia with a nice splash of crimson. It has a nice aged look to it, but it’s so dynamic you know its recent.
I would love a print of this, a giclee print on wood panel with soft rounded corners. Head over to he profile to see her other works, she also adds descriptions to each of her works, background stories really.

At the Compound Gallery in Portland yesterday (6/24/07) the above painting was stolen. If you happen to live in the area, or if you see it pop up anywhere, Ebay, forums or etc, please get a hold of them so that the painting can (hopefully) be recovered.
Of course having anything stolen is a drag, but for artists especially, this is how they make their living. It’s not an mp3, but a one of a kind piece of art. It’s basically food, rent, new shoes and so on being taken away.
Here are the specs: It’s 5″x7″ gouache painting on solid 3/4 inch thick piece of Poplar wood.

Eamo Donnelly, an illustrator from Australia has some canvas prints for sale.
These pieces will be available to anyone, not matter the location. As you can tell by the pieces, he has a really unique style of drawing. These would definitely be great pieces to have on the ol’ walls.

Today’s piece is from Heather Horton, she is from Ontario, Canada.
What caught me the most about this piece, was first the colors, I love the way the blue shirt and skin tones site in front of that white wall. Very striking. I also love the brush work, it looks like she has a very loose, but still controlled style. The background looks very energetic, while the figure has some loose strokes, but still very controlled.
It’s work like this that really makes me want to see it in person. The web is great, but there is nothing like seeing the work up close.

Sorry for the lack of updates, it was a long weekend and I’m also working on a new version of the site. Nothing too drastic, still the same layout really. The main things that will change is the graphics, i’ve seen the background here used on a few pages. So i’m going to work on graphics that will be unique to this site alone, unless someone steals them…
I also want to try a few features that will be more interactive, something that readers of the zine can get involved with. These ideas will take a bit though.
I’m still going to update news while I work on the new version of the site, but I might miss a day or so. Don’t hold it against me.

This piece is by James Ryman. It is oils on canvas, and is about 8×10.
I love zombies, and this is a great painting of one. Often I see zombie artwork that is rushed and quite cheezy looking, but this piece looks great. This is quality work, right along the lines of Brom and Wes Benscoter.
It also happens that this piece is for sale here, head on over to the artists main site to not only look at more great art, but maybe to buy buy yourself (or me) this piece of art.
