Winner of the Trevor Brown print contest

Ok, so all of the entries for the Trevor Brown print contest were read over by Trevor himself and a winner has been chosen. Unfortunately the winner that Trevor did choose, gave a fake e-mail address and is now forfeited. So I used random.org to choose a random winner, who is Celeste Noel. Congratulations! Stay tuned as we will be having some more contests very soon, and thanks to all those that entered.

New Year

Hope everyone had a safe and fun New Years weekend. I hope the next year is amazing, and I am working on some big things for the Creep Machine hoping to make this the best year yet for the site. Remember the Trevor Brown contest is still going on, and not that many people have entered yet so the odds of winning are pretty good right now.

Halloween 2010 Feature

Halloween is upon us again, one of my favorite times of the year. Not only is it filled with great memories of being a kid, eating too much candy and watching horror movies late into the night, but this season is when some of the creepiest art is made. This is the second year I have posted a Halloween feature, and hopefully this one is even better. Head on over to the feature page and see work by: Chris Murray, Charlie Immer, Apricot Mantle, Scott Move, Naoto Hattori, Jessica Ward, Dean McDowell, Esao Andrews, Brian Smith, Dennis Brown, Dan Harding, Ryan Heshka, Celene Petrulak, Adrian Borda, Ego, Buddy Nestor, Edward Frausto, Laurie Lipton, Dave MacDowell, Jehan Choo, Natalie Shau, Joshua Carlton, Dan Hipp, Dienzo, Sarah Joncas, Chet Zar, Chris Brodahl, JR Williams, Tom Haubrick, Nicole Absher, Larkin, and Nouar.

If there is any art you find creepy, that hasn’t been added to this gallery, add the link to the art in the comments.

New Sponsor: Scott Saw

I would like to introduce a new sponsor to the Creep Machine, artist Scott Saw. Working out of San Diego, CA, Scott makes very unique art and always makes sure to keep his web-store stocked with new prints, and even books. Make sure you stop by Scott’s site to see what he has going on, and what new items he has added to the shop. Thanks again Scott. Sponsors help to keep this site going, as well as allowing us to have cool contests.

Winner of the Audrey Kawasaki Print Contest

Well the print contest is officially over. It was a close one but the winner picked the number closest to the number chosen by Virtu Art Gallery, congrats Ryan Shofron. This was a very successful print contest with a huge amount of entrants. I want to thank everyone for taking the time to submit a number, and for those that helped and spread the word about the contest. If you didn’t win, please keep your eyes fixed on this site, for along with all the great art that is featured I have even more contests in mind. A new one will be ready in the next month.

Thanks again to Virtu Art Gallery for the print, for Audrey Kawasaki who made such an amazing print, and to all the readers (and new readers) of the Creep Machine.

RIP: Ryan August of I Want Your Skull

I am very to sad to write that on Saturday, July 11th, Ryan August, the creator of the always inspirational website I Want Your Skull, passed away. I first met Ryan back in 2007 when I decided to start the Creep Machine. I had little idea of what I was doing, let alone what I was going to do to keep the site here for the long run. I Want Your Skull is one of those sites I wish I had made, i’m sure many feel that way, and I decided to model the Creep Machine on Ryan’s creation. I became a die-hard fan when I e-mailed Ryan to ask some questions, and not only was he open to answer every one, but you could tell that he just really loved art. While many other art sites are created and then fade away, I Want Your Skull was always there and it prodded me to keep going, being the sole writer such as Ryan was can get very tough sometimes. The longevity of I Want Your Skull, and the printed zines he worked so hard to bring us every year, was testament to the love of art Ryan had.

As long as I Want Your Skull has been going, Ryan always had a link to the Creep Machine on it, as well as on his own portfolio site (here) right under the title “inspiration”. I feel happy that my little site was an inspiration to him, as his site was such an inspiration to me. My thoughts go out to Ryan’s wife Sarah and their son Declan. Thanks again Ryan for creating the best skull related art site on the web, and for never giving up on it.

Just saw over at OMGPosters.com, that there is an e-mail address should anyone want to donate to the family. ryanaugustdonation[at]gmail.com.

“Morpheus” print by Lindsey Carr

Lindsey Carr, otherwise known as Little Robot, has a new print available over at Paper Tiger. The print is 12″ x 16.5″ on archival textured fine art paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 25. Lindsey has an amazing style, and this print is a great example of the type of vibe her work can create.

R.I.P Frank Frazetta

This past Monday, May 10th, legendary artist Frank Frazetta passed away at age 82. Widely known as the godfather of fantasy illustration, Frank’s influence can be seen in the work of countless artists such as Ashley Wood, Simon Bisley, Glenn Barr, Dan Harding and many more. Often categorized as an illustrator, Frazetta was an artist worthy of any museums recognition and appreciation.

Art Whino new website and sale

Art Whino has just launched a new version of their homepage. If you remember the last page it was pretty much all flash based, which I am not a fan of, but this new version is back to html. I know animations and effects are fun, but simpler sites are easier to see on mobile devices, easier to move around in, and most importantly allow the viewer to focus on the most important thing; the art! There is also a new store layout, that allows you to browser by artist, see new arrivals, or use the search field to find what you are looking for.

For all the fans of the Creep Machine, Art Whino has supplied a special code, “whinoslovecreeps”, that if you use from now until May 16th you can get anything in the shop for 10% off. Looking around there is some amazing work to be had, such as “Headlong Buckle Buster” by Paul Chatem (shown).
